MyPlan
for Broadfield Programs in Arts and Sciences
Broad-Field
Social Sciences Program
The
broad-field in Social Sciences and Science are intended for students
who want a broad perspective over a group of related disciplines
with greater depth in one discipline. The programs require from
57 to 66 hours.
The
Broadfield Social Sciences Committee administers the program leading
to the bachelor's degree with a broadfield major in social sciences.
This major, which includes courses in economics, geography, history,
political science, and sociology is designed to prepare students
with a broad perspective of the Social Science disciplines. This
broad-field major, however, may be chosen by students who intend
to teach when such broad subject matter preparation meets their
particular career needs.
Students
selecting this major should consult with an advisor
in one of the departments listed.
Broad-Field
Science Program
Completion
of this program requires from 24 to 32 hours in the major, depending
on the fields of emphasis, and 33 to 34 hours distributed equally
over three other science fields.
The
Broad-field Science program is administered jointly by the departments
of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry and Physics.
A student wishing information concerning this program should consult
and advisor in one of the
science departments involved.
The
Broadfield Science Program is designed as a generalist approach
to the biological sciences, chemistry, and physics. This broad-field
major, however, may be chosen by students who intend to teach
when such broad subject matter preparation meets their particular
career needs.
