Reading 350 - Reading and Literacy I (Three semester hours)

This course introduced the theoretical foundations of reading and literacy for the teacher in training. The teacher-in-training will explore how reading, literacy, and cognitive processes are developed. Fifteen hours of lab will provide time for field observations of children and teachers to connect theory with actual practice. The focus of this course is an examination of how to implement TEKS when facilitating literacy acquisition and development. An emphasis on teaching approaches, text genre, writing, listening, speaking, linguistics, cueing systems, phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, spelling, and professional resources are included.

Prerequisites: Minimum overall GPA of 2.50 and must have passed TSI.
