History 306 - The Emergence of the Modern World (Three semester hours)

This course covers the period from 1500 to the present and will focus on the ecological conditions of globalization, the rise of “formal” imperialism, and the construction and maintenance of colonial/imperial states. Themes covered will include paths to modernity, non-western philosophies of resistance, technological revolutions, and the intersections of world thought, religion, trade, and economy. Special emphasis will be
given to the non-Western world.

Majors Prerequisite or co-requisite: History 253. Non-Majors Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
