CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

 

 
* High School student (9th - 12th ) no older than 18 years of age
 
* Desire to achieve academically and pursue a higher education.
 
* Academic potential from low-income families and first generation college students.
 
* Analysis of needs assessment and survey of the individual student.
 
* Student willingness to participate in those aspects of the program that provide personal, career, and academic counseling and guidance as needed.
 
* Student's willingness to utilize special curricular and instructional methods which will assist them in completing required and prerequisite courses.
 
* To get referrals, recommendations, and approval from the parent(s), high school principals and counselors.
 
* To have a completed application on file with the program.

 

DEFINITIONS

LOW-INCOME: Defined as an individual whose family's taxable income did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level in the calendar year preceding the year in which the individual participates in the project.

FIRST-GENERATION: Neither parent has graduated from a four-year institution.

Note: Each prospective student will be given a series of points based upon the above criteria. These points will determine if the student is chosen to participate in the United Bound Project.
