Memorial Stadium Turns 50 In 2000

Memorial Stadium, home of the Lions’ football and track teams, turns 50 years old on Sept. 23, 2000. That’s the night the Lions host Midwestern State in a 6 p.m. contest.

It was on Sept. 23, 1950, that the stadium was dedicated to the 78 former students who died in World War II and the first game played. Several special events are planned for the game that will celebrate the stadium’s 50th birthday. The celebration coincides with the city of Commerce’s Bois d’Arc Bash weekend.

Mark your calendars to attend the game to honor the athletic landmark.
