Fair Park’s Hall of State
Site of Millennium Gala

Furure Performance Hall?

Less than a year ago, a generous benefactor had a vision to make the Department of Music a “program of distinction,” a center which, given the properly-funded tools and alumni participation, could advance this University’s cultural sphere of influence well beyond traditional borders, well into this new millennium.

His challenge launched the “Music for the New Millennium” campaign, a $17.5 million package of programs and plans that has as its centerpiece a 1,000-seat, state-of-the-art concert hall, and expanded service centers for both the region’s cultural enrichment and expanded academic instruction.

Today, thanks to the generosity of alumni, pending partnerships with several corporations and foundations, and his $3 million matching gift challenge, this plan is within reach. It’s time to celebrate, and you’re invited to join in the Music for the New Millennium Gala April 28 at one of the most historic, graceful halls in Dallas—the Hall of State at Fair Park.

Now is the time to gather a table of old friends, for this will be one of the University’s finest hours. Dance to a 20-piece orchestra at this black-tie optional event. Seating will be limited to the first 500, and information can be obtained by checking the University website or by contacting Claire Hale at 903-886-3067.

Our donor’s challenge came at a historical crossroad. Today A&M-Commerce is one of the largest universities in the A&M System and is at the eastern doorstep of one of the fastest-growing areas in the metroplex. The Department of Music is highly acclaimed in academic circles and strategic to the state in delivering quality arts educators and curricula. Given the high expectations—and needs—of future students, the growing needs of our region, the changing demographics of the state, and the goals of the A&M System, our need to enhance and upgrade was great. That a $3 million matching gift challenge occurred at this particular time in University history was propitious.

Your business or family still has a rare opportunity to join in partnership with this vision. Specific rooms and/or programs are available for permanent memorial tribute. Until April 13, the closing date of the challenge, a gift of any size could go twice as far as it could on its own. By providing such financial sponsorship, you will become a recognized leader in commissioning quality education in Texas.

A regional support center and a new concert theatre will draw students and visitors onto campus for outstanding opera, dramas, symposia, jazz and symphonic performances, contemporary concerts, and regional special events well into the next millennium. For performance, experience, high yield, and growth potential, you can depend on A&M-Commerce.
