Warren Morrison (BS ’77), executive director of
the Miss Hunt County Organization, was re-elected to the Miss Texas Local
Franchise Association Board of Directors. Morrison was re-elected to serve
a three-year term on the board, which serves as a liaison between the
franchise holders and Miss Texas Organization officials. He also was re-elected
by the board as the association’s news editor. In that position,
he provides publicity on association activities and publishes the bi-monthly
newsletter, “The Miss Texas Spotlight.”
Dr. Albert Thomas (EDD ’77), who has been the Baldwin
County (AL) schools superintendent for four years, is leaving the system
to teach school finance and school law classes at the University of South
Alabama in Mobile. He and his wife, Gail, reside in Spanish Fort.
Sherry Mills (BS ’78) is the executive director
of Reel Women, a non-profit organization that provides information, education,
networking opportunities and support to women with all levels of experience
in the film and video industries in Austin, TX. She previously lived in
southern California and Hawaii for 18 years. She also teaches geography
and professional development (resume writing, job interviewing skills,
etc.) part-time in the Tour-Travel Program at Capitol City Careers.
Sheila Howell Ratchiff (BMED ’78, MS ’87)
was selected Teacher of the Year for Waskom (TX) ISD, where she just completed
her 10th year.
Max Bledsoe (BS ’79, MS ’92) is head softball
coach at Frisco (TX) High School. His team won the 2002 4A State Championship
in June. Their season record was 36-1.
Terri Roberts Deike (BS ’79) is the first women’s
basketball coach at the University of Texas at Tyler. She has 20 years’
varsity basketball coaching experience.
Glenn Slater (BA ’79, MA ’81, MED ’88)
has resigned as headmaster at Greenville Christian School, Greenville,
TX to take a position in Maryville, TN. He was with the school for 21
years, beginning as a history teacher.
1980-89
Jenny Wilcoxson Davis (BA ’81, MA ’82) is
the public information officer for the Hunt County Committee on Aging.
She will coordinate public information, special events and volunteer programming.
Ruth Ann Donges (MED ’82) retired from Austin ISD
in May 1999 after 27 years in Texas public schools.
Mark Stretcher (BS ’84, MS ’86) is the superintendent
of Overton (TX) ISD. He formerly served as superintendent at Mount Vernon,
Hico and Windthorst ISDs.
Doug Wintermute (BS ’84) is the public information
officer at Kilgore College, Kilgore, TX. The native of Cooper also writes
contemporary Christian music and performs as a guitarist and singer with
the praise team of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kilgore.
Mary McBurnetthas 43 years of teaching experience, 34 of those at Ennis.
Rick Foreman (BS ’87) is the high school principal
at Trenton (TX) ISD. He has been a faculty member at Trenton for about
eight years.
Algirtha Lockhart (BS ’87) teaches for Ennis (TX)
ISD. She has worked for the district for 26 years, 12 of those as a math
and reading aide and 14 years as a classroom teacher.
Susan Michelle McSpadden Kelly (BS ’89) and husband,
Devon, announce the arrival of Devon Albert Kelly IV on May 9.
Staci Shanks Prier (BBA ’89, MED ’93) is
campus coordinator for special education for Highland Park ISD. Her husband,
Cliff, teaches and coaches football at Highland Park High School. They
are the proud parents of 10-month-old twin boys, Brendan and Cade.
1990-2002
Kim Rainey (BBA ’90) was announced as registrar
at Northern Kentucky University, effective Sept. 3. She was former director
of records and reports and registrar at A&M-Commerce.
Lindley Stewart (BS ’90) has been employed as a
land title examiner with Old Republic Title Company of Conroe since 1991.
He married Deborah Ladd June 3, 2000. They have one son, Joseph, and reside
in Conroe.
Capt. Roger Bishop (BSCJ ’91), USAF, and his wife,
Julie, announce the birth of their daughter, Jennifer Janelle, born May
18. He is currently the chief of weapons and tactics codes operations
at Malstrom AFB, MT. He will be reassigned to the National Security Agency
in the fall.
Angeline Hawkes Craig (BA ’91) has multiple short
stories appearing in print and e-publications for 2002. She is the www.horror-web.com
Horror Short Story winner for May 2002. She writes historical and horror
fiction and is a member of the Writer’s League of Texas.
Jeffrey Allen (BS ’92) and Jennifer Allen
(BS ’92) announce the arrival of Lindy Paige July 18. She
was welcomed home by brothers Micah and Cameron and big sister Katie.
Kelly Stansell (BS ’92, MS ’97) is the principal
of Spring Hill Middle School in Longview, TX. She previously was at Rivercrest
ISD, where she was principal, counselor and teacher.
Kent Pearson Davis Jones (BS ’93) married Tamela
Lee White June 15. He is employed by International Commission in Dallas.
The couple resides in McKinney.
Paige Bussell (BBA ’94, MBA ’02) was promoted
to the position of registrar at A&M-Commerce. She has served in this
position on an interim basis since October 2001.
Dr. John M. Kras (EDD ’94) has been promoted and
tenured as an associate professor in the Department of Health, Physical
Education and Recreation at Utah State University.
Elizabeth Morales (BS ’94, MBA ’00) married
Christopher Patterson April 20. She is employed at Cigna in Sherman, TX
where they reside.
Chani Mertz Bounds (BS ’95) recently accepted her
second promotion at Nextel Communications to corporate account executive.
She has been named to the Presidents Council, Nextel’s top sales
executives. She is married to Bob Bounds (BS ’91,
MS ’94).
Kari Nuckolls (BSCJ ’95) and Steve Nuckolls (BA
’98) are both field adjusters for Farm Bureau. They proudly announce
the birth of their daughter, Saylor Ryland, July (MED
’86) teaches at Ennis Intermediate School, Ennis, TX. She 17. They
also have a 1-year old daughter, Star Reilly. They reside in Sulphur Springs.
Bethany Oden Russell (BS ’95) and her husband,
Charles Russell, are owners and publishers of The Leonard Graphic, a newspaper
publishing in Fannin County since 1890. The newspaper is steadily growing
and provides an exciting family business for the Russells, who have three
children: Ashley, 11, Ryan, 3, and Arianna, 9 months.

Evans June 29 in Celeste, TX. He is a teacher and coach for Leonard ISD.
Kristi LaShawn Caldwell (BSCJ ’96) married Marlin
Lamar Thomas (BSCJ ’96) May 25 in Greenville, TX. She is
employed by Collin County Juvenile Detention Center in McKinney and he
is employed by the City of Houston.
Stacey Steadham Ellis (MED ’96) served the past
two years as assistant principal at Dr. Bruce Wood Intermediate School
in Terrell and has recently been named principal. She has been in Terrell
ISD for 10 years.
Bradley Stiles (BS ’96) married Kristin Renouf
July 27 in Moorestown, NJ. He is employed by CIGNA Group Insurance. The
couple resides in Dallas.
Teresa Davis Ward (BSIS ’96) married Mike Wolfe
July 1 in Paris, TX. She is employed by Paris ISD as a special service
teacher at Aikin Elementary School.
James Welch (BS ’96) has been named credit office
president of the Lone Star Bank, ACA, Paris, TX. He has five years’
experience in the Farm Credit System, starting his career as a loan officer
for AgriLand Farm Credit Services in Hopkins County.
Cheryl West (BS ’96) married R. J. Howerton July
20 in Las Vegas. They reside in Dodd City, TX.
Thomas L. Witt (BS ’96) graduated from Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth May 17 with a master of divinity
degree.
Lori Denise Baughman (BSIS ’97) married Benjamin
Chapman Sly July 20 in Sherman. She is employed by Melissa ISD, and the
couple resides in Sherman.
Jandy Thompson (BS ’97) received her Real Property
Administrator designation from Building Owners and Managers Institute
in July. The RPA designation indicates that the recipient has completed
a program of in-depth courses dealing with ownership, management and operation
of major office and commercial buildings. She was named vice president-property
management by the John Bowles Company, Dallas, in August.
Matthew Wallis (MS ’98) is the first men’s
basketball coach at the University of Texas at Tyler. He served one season
as women’s assistant coach at Montana State University in Bozeman.See

Dr. Mustafa Baloglu (PHD ’01, PHD ’02) was
featured in a Greenville Herald Banner article when he received his second
doctoral degree in May. He completed his second degree while teaching
in the Department of Counseling. He holds his first doctorate in psychology
and special education and his second in counseling.
Nancy Hill (BS ’01), former coordinator of graduation
at A&M-Commerce, was promoted to assistant registrar.
Jason H. Murray (BS ’01) married Heather Raye O’Neal
June 1 in Commerce. He is employed with Conley and Conley Cattle Company

Jennifer Roberts (BS ’01) married Jeff Gray (BS

married David Jason Vaughn May 18 in Winnsboro. The couple is residing

Angie Parks (BFA ’02) is working at DNA Productions
Studio, Dallas, where they recently completed their first feature, “Jimmy
Neutron, Boy Genius.” She has been with the company for three years
and is now involved in the TV series being produced. She resides in Las
Colinas.

TX, June 30, after 36 years of service.
Steven Rash served as director of the films “The

(’87), Rich Hall’s “Vanishing America” (’86),
“The Son-In-Law” (’93), ”Held Up” (’00),
“Under the Rainbow” (’81), “Queens Logic”
(’91) and “Eddie” (’96).
John Sellers was guest speaker for the East Texas Genealogical
Society and the Anderson County Genealogical Society on June 29 in Palestine.
In Memory
Jimmie Louise Thurman Stephens (BA ’29)—July
16. She taught drama at Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia
in Fredericksburg, VA, elementary school in Port Arthuir, TX, Mt. Kisco,
NY, Spring Branch (TX) ISD and then became an elementary consultant for
the Harris County Department of Education.
Martha Harrison Miller (BA ’31, MA ’49)—Nov.
25, 2001. She was retired and resided in Fort Worth.
Virgie Irene Hutchinson (BS ’37)—June 23.
She retired twice in her 66 years of teaching. The first time was from
the Austin school district in 1972, when the U.S. Supreme Court said she
couldn’t pray with her students at the start of each day. The second
time was from St. Francis School in 1991, after she broke a hip while
bringing her students in from the playground. She began teaching in 1925
on a temporary certificate in a one-room schoolhouse in Greenville, TX.
Dorothy Faires May (BA ’37)—June 24. She
was a teacher for several years. After moving to Dallas, she was active
in numerous civic and charitable activities, including the Founder’s
Circle, The Foundation Board of A&M-Commerce and the Dallas Civic
Opera Board and Rotogravure.
Julia Ann Giddens Hill (MS ’40)—January 2000.
She taught public school music for 45 years, 35 in Dallas. She was a world
traveler. Her husband, Richard R. Giddens Jr. (MS ’40),
passed away on Sept. 29, 2001. He was senior digital computer systems
analyst for the Agriculture Department in Washington, D.C., retiring after
27 years.
Sue Kizer (BS ’48)—July 21. She graduated
from East Texas State Training School in 1946. She was employed at Security
State Bank, Commerce, for 47 years, serving as vice president and on the
board of directors before retiring in 1995. She was honored with the Commerce
Rotary Club Employee of the Year award in 1981.
Ward S. Logan (BA ’48)—June 4. He was a licensed
electrician. Most of his professional career was spent on the Gulf Coast
of Texas and Puerto Rico, working in the petroleum industry. He retired
from Phillips Petroleum Company in 1980.
Ruby Ortosky (BS ’50, MED ’79)—Aug.
3. Her career spanned 41 years as a teacher, primarily in Richardson,
TX.
Hubert Harris (MED ’52)—June 5. He was a
teacher and superintendent, retiring from Clint (TX) ISD. |
