AUTOBIOGRAPHY
In paragraph
form, prepare a typed autobiography following this format. Start
with the header at the top of the page as shown. There should be
one double space between the header and the title, which is in all
caps and centered, then one double space between the title and the
first paragraph. This autobiography will be maintained in your
files and will also be given to the mentor teachers. The
autobiography should be no longer than 2 pages, double spaced, and
in essay form. Please use size 12 font and Times New Roman, or a
similar type face, for your finished product.
Important things to remember when preparing your autobiography:
1. Be sure to use "SPELL CHECK"
2. Use proper grammar and punctuation
3. Have someone read your finished product before making copies
Remember - This is the first impression that the school district will have of you!!
To begin
your autobiography, develop a descriptive paragraph explaining the
events and/or experiences in your life that led you to decide to
become a teacher. Focus on positive experiences.
For the
second paragraph, provide details of your previous teaching
experiences. You might include substitute teaching, private
school experiences, early field practicum experiences, volunteer
opportunities, church work, summer jobs, etc. In other words, any
experiences you have had working with children.
The third
paragraph should include information about your educational
background. Tell about where you have gone to school in the past,
the various colleges you might have attended, your current major,
and your teaching field choices.
The final paragraph is for
personal information. You might include a brief description of
your family and where you have lived. You might write about
yourself, including your age and marital status, unusual places
you have visited and/or lived, and, if married and/or a parent, a
little about your current family (spouse, children, pets, etc.).
You also might discuss your hobbies and special interests you have
now or may have had in the past that relate to teaching.
REMEMBER – these are all optional. Be sure to include only
information that you feel is appropriate to share in a
professional interview.
