For Fall 2008 Intern or Intern/Resident Placement, the deadline for

submitting your (complete) application to Ed North, 205, is (Tuesday) January 29, 2008.


Welcome to the Texas A&M University-Commerce Field-Based Teacher Education Program online application website.  Prior to filing for application, please review the following:

It is each student’s responsibility to understand, or seek assistance in understanding, the time in which he/she should make application to the Teacher Education Program.  Students may consult their degree advisor and degree audit to determine readiness.  Should further assistance be required, consult the Center for Educator Certification and Academic Services (CECAS) in Education North, 205.  Students must apply to the Teacher Education Program in the semester prior to their anticipated placement.  For example, if a student is planning to begin their student teaching (i.e., internship or internship/residency) in the Fall, the student must apply to the program before the deadline date in the preceding Spring semester.


The Application Process Starts Here!

Gather up the following items, in order:

1.  Confirmation Page.  (You do not have this yet, but you soon will.  The Confirmation Page is what you will see after you submit your online application.  This must be turned in with your other documents.) 

2. Copy of your Degree Evaluation-See Special Instructions

Students may obtain their Degree Evaluation by signing in to "MyLeo" from the University website.

Once you have signed in using your CWID and password, click on the MyLeo link, and follow the prompts to obtain your Degree Evaluation. Note - when selecting "Degree Evaluation Options", be sure to select "Detail Requirements".

Please print the Degree Evaluation in "Landscape Format", so all of the information will print and be viewable. Degree Evaluation printed in any other format will not be accepted.

Note: Please review your Degree Evaluation thoroughly and very carefully - check for accuracy and/or problems or discrepancies (e.g, courses that were subbed not showing, transfer courses, etc.).

You must contact your Academic (major) advisor immediately if you identify a problem with your Degree Evaluation

  The Degree Evaluation must be included in your application packet!Your application will not be accepted without the   Degree Evaluation.

-If problems or discrepancies are identified on the Degree Evaluation(e.g.,course that were subbed not showing,etc.)you   are responsible for contacting your advisor for assistance.

NOTE:  ONLY APPLICATIONS WITH ALL ATTACHMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  KEEP A COPY FOR YOUR RECORDS. 

Here are some important things to consider.  Please review the remaining information prior to applying.  In addition, please print this webpage so you may easily recall the steps and necessary information required in this process.


TASP/THEA

All three parts of the TASP / THEA (Reading, Math, and Writing) must meet department and certification requirements in order to gain admission to the Teacher Education Program. The score requirement for each section of the TASP / THEA is:

Reading (Minimum 250); Math (230); and Writing (220).

There are acceptable substitutions / exemptions for Math and Writing portions of the TASP / THEA, i.e. TAAS, ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER, etc. There are NO substitutions / exemptions for the Reading portion of the TASP / THEA. You must have a minimum score of 250 on the TASP / THEA to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program - no execptions!

Note Regarding Substitutions / Exemptions:

  •  You must attempt a testing instrument (TASP, THEA, TAAS, ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER, etc.) at least once before a course grade of "C" or better will satisfy the requirement for Math and/or Writing. A grade of "C" or better only will not satisfy the requirement.

  • There is no appealing of the TASP / THEA requirement to the TEARAC Committee. If the TASP / THEA requirement is not met, the student will not be admitted to the Teacher Education Program.

  • The "prior to 1989" rule is accepted only in conjunction with a course grade of "C" or better in Math and Writing only.

Interview Dates for Fall 2008 Placement

Reminder letters will NOT be mailed. Attendance at an interview is mandatory for placement within a district.  Please attend your first interview choice only.  If you are not placed in your first choice district, you will be notified.

When will I know if I've been placed?

You will receive your tentative placement via phone, e-mail, or in the mail.  Placement will not be confirmed until documentation of all admission requirements are evident.  This also includes course substitutions, transfer grades, TASP/THEA scores, etc...

Most Frequently Asked Questions

APPLICATION:

1. When is the application due? The application is due in the Center for Educator Certification, Ed. North, Room 205, on or before January 29, 2008.
2. Can I hand in the application without having a copy of my degree evaluation? No. All required information must be turned in at the same time. We will not accept any applications without all required information.
3. How long does the autobiography need to be? At least 1 1/2 pages, but no longer than 2 pages typed, double-spaced, in essay form.  Remember to refer to the directions linked above in point #2 of the "items" to gather up.
4. Can I use colored paper or decorated paper to write my letter and/or autobiographies? We suggest that white paper be used for letters and autobiographies. If you want to use decorated paper, that is your choice, but remember that if a copy needs to be made to send to a school, the graphics do not copy clearly.

INTERVIEWS:

1. Can I attend my second/third choice interview if that interview is before my first choice interview? No. You are to attend your first choice interview. If you are not placed at your first choice, then you will be contacted and arrangements will be made for a second interview.
2. What should I not wear to the interview? Do not wear blue jeans, shorts, tank-tops, short skirts/dresses, or t-shirts. Do not wear sunglasses in interviews, unless medically necessary. Men should check with the district regarding facial hair. Do not wear tongue rings or other body piercing rings. One pair of earrings is acceptable for women.  Visible tattoos are also not prudent. 
3. What do I need to bring to the interview? The only thing you need to bring to the interview is a positive attitude.
4. Do not show up late for interviews. Timeliness is very important!!! Please do not chew gum or bring a drink to the interview. Be sure to use proper grammar.


Final Step --- Apply Online

You may now click on the application link below to apply online.  Once you submit your application, you should see a Confirmation Page.  Print your Confirmation Page and submit it with the rest of the required documentation listed above.  Should you have any questions, you may contact Mitzi Hughes at 903-886-5182, ext 2.  Once you turn your file into Education North building, Room 205, we will begin clearing you for admission.  Should you not meet the required admission criteria, you will be notified via mail.  Remember to proceed with attending your first district choice interview on the date, time, and location listed unless otherwise notified.
