Hansen wins 12th straight ASCAP award
Commerce, Texas-Dr. Ted Hansen, a professor of music at Texas A&M University-Commerce, picked up his 12th consecutive American Society of Composers, Authors and Publisher award for his contributions to music.
"I am grateful to be recognized for my efforts as a composer, since it requires a considerable amount of time and hard work beyond my teaching responsibilities," Hansen said. I always feel fortunate as well, to be able to pursue the opportunities to create music since I have spent my entire life in love with sound. Also, I feel so lucky to be surrounded by the fabulous performers on this faculty who have been willing to play my music."
The ASCAP award is based on published works and performances as determined by ASCAP media surveys, composition work and quality of compositions in the opinion of the award panel.
"The award confirms the consistent quality of his compositions and overall body of work," said Dr. Chris White, head of the A&M-Commerce Department of Music.
This year’s award was based on his most recent performances: “Declaration for Trombone and Piano” which premiered at A&M-Commerce, “Aria for Trombone and Piano,” “Soliloquy for Solo Clarinet,” “Piano Sonato” in Seoul, Korea, and “Canto for Solo Bassoon,” performed at the bassoon convention in Sweden.

Hansen’s work has also been performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and on National Education Television. Seesaw Music Corporation, a division of Subito Music Corporations, has published 46 of Hansen’s compositions.
On campus, he teaches composition and orchestration courses as well as the capstone course, “Architecture, Philosophy and Music.” He is known as a jazz pianist, and presents an annual recital each year at A&M-Commerce to celebrate his passion for music.
He currently resides in Greenville.
