Brian and Barbara Cullen decided to create The Columbia Crew Memorial Scholarship in memory of the courageous astronauts who lost their lives on February 1, 2003. “We wanted to honor the Columbia crew in a special way,” says Brian Cullen. “Barbara and I had been talking about how we could say thanks to the Greenville community for accept us with open arms when we moved here. And, we wanted to pay tribute to the people of E-Systems and L-3 Communications who have impressed us us so much over the years with their commitment to accomplishing whatever goal is before them. We wanted to provide a gift that honored the pursuit of excellence in education, accomplishment, and the spirit of daring to dream. Since A&M-Commerce is the apex of education in the area, we wanted to tie the scholarship to the university so that the best and brightest from the area could be encouraged to stay close to home while getting a great education.
