The Department of Campus Recreation utilizes a ‘student-run’ philosophy and thus employs approximately 100 student workers who are directly responsible for the overall operations and maintenance of all recreational facilities.

Many of the student workers are cross-trained and are able to easily flow from one specialty area to another which provides for great flexibility and continuity within the Department. All student workers are American Red Cross certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED. This is maintained by in service and simulations.

  Specialty areas include:

Supervisor (SUP) – responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Morris Recreation Center, Cain Sports Complex, and Tennis Courts … all student workers report directly to the Supervisor On-Duty.

Member Services (MS) – manage the front desk and equipment check-out area … primary contact with all members and guests.

Weight Room (WR) – manage the cardio and weight equipment areas as well as the gymnasium … trained to give orientations, demonstrate proper techniques, and provides fitness tips.

Group Fitness Instructors (INST) – teach various group fitness classes such as aerobics, kick boxing, yoga, X-bike, self defense, and also provide personal training ... each instructor is trained in his/her specialty area.

Outdoor Adventure (OA) – manage the rock climbing wall and serve as trip leaders … trained in the ‘challenge by choice’ philosophy.
