General Facility Policies

 

  • Food and drinks are permitted in snack bar and outside at the Great Out-Roars. Plastic re-sealable containers are allowed in the activity room, weight room, gymnasium, track, and outdoor areas. Food may be permitted in the meeting rooms if requested at the time of reservation.

  • Closed toe shoes are required (Tennis Shoes) to enter the facility. The only exceptions that will be allowed are for those dressed in business casual with a locker, and for those on tours.

  • Athletic or court shoes are required in the gymnasium, track, activity room, weight room, climbing wall, and racquetball courts. Boots, other outdoor footwear and sandals are prohibited in these areas.

  • Members are asked to respect the equipment and furniture in the facility. For example, we ask that trash be disposed of properly, feet kept off the furniture and walls, food and drink be restricted to designated areas, excess dirt wiped from shoes properly, and facility or equipment problems be reported immediately.

  • In the locker rooms, a swimsuit water extractor has been provided. The machine is designed to extract excess water from your swimsuits only it will not dry completely. In order to protect the equipment, please use the dryer for its intended purpose only.

  • MRC regulations prohibit bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, skateboards, roller blades, or similar items from being brought into the facility.

  • No smoking or use of tobacco products is allowed in the facility.

  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed in any recreational facility.

  • Only animals assisting the disabled are allowed in any recreational facility.

  • Any posters or flyers must be approved by professional staff and will be posted by the MRC staff.

  • The Campus Recreation Department, its employees and volunteers are not responsible for damage or personal injuries facility users may receive.

  • The Campus Recreation Department is not responsible for any loss of property in the MRC. It is suggested that valuables be stored in lockers.

  • Specific facility policies are posted in designated recreational areas. Users are responsible for observing and following these policies.

  • Any violations of the MRC building policies may result in suspension of privileges.

Equipment Checkout

 

Recreational equipment is available for checkout with a valid CWID Card. Equipment available for check-out includes: small and large towels, indoor/outdoor volleyballs, indoor/outdoor basketballs, wallyball, soccer balls, racquetball racquets, badminton racquets, stability balls, jump ropes, ab wheels and outdoor adventure equipment. Outdoor equipment is available for overnight checkout and must be returned at the scheduled time. All equipment is required to be returned in the same condition in which it was checked out. A replacement cost may be charged for any lost, late or damaged equipment.

 

Note: Not all equipment can be checked out for overnight use. Some equipment is for indoor use only. Confer with supervisor if unsure of what equipment can leave the facility.

Fitness Zone Rules

 

 
  • Fitness Zone use is limited to Texas A&M-Commerce students or members age 18 and over.

 
 
  • No food, drinks, tobacco products or gum allowed. Re-sealable bottles allowed.

 
 
  • All users must wear a full shirt and use a towel when using any equipment. This helps keep the equipment clean and dry for others.

 
 
  • Please wipe equipment after each use.

 
 
  • Closed toe shoes are required. No sandals, boots or bare feet allowed.

 
 
  • The floor must be kept clear at all times. Book bags and other non-activity personal belongings should be kept in the designated areas, such as locker rooms or token lockers.

 
 
  • Equipment may only be used for its designated purpose.

 
 
  • Re-rack weights when finished. Please do not drop weights or dumbbells.

 
 
  • Chalk is not allowed.

 
 
  • Use of collars (plate) restraining devices is mandatory.

 
 
  • It is highly recommended that you utilize spotters when necessary (i.e. Overhead lifts, squats, and bench work).

 
 
  • Never attempt to “save” Olympic style lifts.

 
 
  • There is a thirty-minute time limit on the cardio equipment that is strictly enforced when people are waiting.

 
 
  • It is highly recommended that all workouts on aerobic equipment be completed ten minutes prior to closing time to allow for an adequate cool down.

 
 
  • It is highly recommended that you do not wear any type of rubber covering during any cardiovascular exercise.

 
 
  • Please do not sit on weight equipment between sets. Allow other participants to use the same piece of equipment. On all plate loaded equipment, a circuit workout has priority. Individuals doing multiple sets must allow single set exercisers to continue through the circuit without interruption.

 
 
  • No outside personal training is permitted in the facility.

 
 
  • All equipment must remain in the weight room area.

 
 
  • Report any equipment problems to the weight room staff.

 
 
  • In case of an emergency please contact the weight room staff.

 
 
  • Observe facility etiquette and demonstrate courtesy towards others in the facility at all times.

 
 
  • No horseplay or loud offensive language is permitted.

Activity Room Rules

Indoor Track Rules

(14 Laps = 1 Mile)

 

  • Court shoes are required.

  • No food, drinks, tobacco or gum allowed (re-sealable containers allowed).

  • Walkers use the outside lane, middle for joggers, and the inside lane will be for runners.

  • Stretching and observations are allowed in the designated locations only.

  • In case of an emergency contact the MRC staff.

Gym Rules

Racquetball Courts

 

 
  • Each participant must check in at the equipment checkout desk for court assignment.

 
 
  • Courts may be reserved one day (24 hours) in advance. Reservation periods begin and end on the hour.

 
 
  • Reservations are subject to forfeiture if not claimed within 10 minutes of the reservation time.

 
 
  • Courts use is limited to users age 16 and over only; if the user is under 18, he/she must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

 
 
  • Protective eyewear is strongly recommended.

 
 
  • Proper athletic attire and athletic footwear must be worn at all times on the court.

Pool

 
 
  • Swimming is permitted only when a lifeguard is present.

 
 
  • Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied and closely supervised by an adult.

 
 
  • Children must be at least 3 years of age and potty-trained in order to use the pool. Swim diapers are not allowed.

 
 
  • Please shower before entering the pool.

 
 
  • Running, diving or excessive splashing, dunking, shoving or object throwing is not permitted.

 
 
  • People with open wounds or infectious diseases are not permitted in the pool.

 
 
  • Gum and adhesive bandages are not allowed.

 
 
  • The pool is reserved for lap swimming in lanes 1-3.

 
 
  • Appropriate swim attire required. Cut-off jeans or boxer shorts are not permitted.

 
 
  • Do not hang on lane ropes.

 
 
  • Please be aware of the emergency whistle code (1 Short Whistle Warning, 3 Short Blast Clear pool).

 
 
  • The lifeguards have authority over all patrons regarding policy enforcement.

 

  • Emergency alert – In case of an emergency contact the lifeguards.

Spa

 

 
  • Use the spa only when the water is 104 °F or below.

 
 
  • Children under the age of 10 are not allowed to use the spa; all other persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied and closely supervised by an adult.

 
 
  • Use the steps to enter and exit the spa. No jumping or diving allowed.

 
 
  • Please shower before entering the spa.

 
 
  • Please enter and exit slowly and cautiously.

 
 
  • Children under ten are not allowed to use the spa and all other persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied and closely supervised by an adult.

 
 
  • Use of body lotions, oils, or suntan preparation is prohibited in the spa.

 
 
  • People with heart disease, abnormal blood pressure, epilepsy, or emotional disorders should not use the spa before consulting a physician.

 
 
  • People with open wounds or infectious diseases are not permitted in the spa.

 
 
  • Appropriate swim attire required. Cut-off jeans or boxer shorts are not permitted.

 
 
  • Long exposure may result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting. Do not stay in the spa longer than 15 minutes at a time.

 
 
  • Please be aware of the emergency whistle code (1 Short Whistle Warning, 3 Short Blast Clear pool).

 
 
  • The lifeguards have authority over all patrons regarding policy enforcement.

Basketball and Sand Volleyball Rules

 

  • Shoes are required on the basketball courts.

  • Food, drinks, tobacco or gum are not allowed (re-sealable containers are allowed).

  • Hanging on the basketball rim is not allowed.

  • Only outdoor equipment will be allowed in this area.

Climbing Wall Rules

 

 
  • Climbing is permitted only when appropriate staff is present.
 
 
  • All climbers must pass a skills test at the beginning of each semester. Climbers with little or no experience must take an orientation class.
 
 
  • All climbers must sign a Climbing Wall Release of Liability. Patrons under 18 must have the form signed by a parent or guardian.
 
 
  • All climbers must use UIAA approved equipment. Patrons wishing to use personal equipment must have the equipment checked by staff prior to each use. Shoes are mandatory.
 
 
  • No food or drinks inside the climbing area at any time.
 
 
  • In case of emergency contact the MRC staff.
