Who We Are and What We Do
Better schools, cleaner air, safer streets, affordable health care, international peace, freedom and justice for everyone... What's the connection? All involve government and politics, and all are studied in Political Science classes. Political Science is an ideal major to prepare students for careers in public service, law - including the growing paralegal field, teaching, business, campaign management, and many other fields. It is an excellent minor that will complement the program of study in almost any other major.
Political Science includes the study of government, politics, public policy, and political philosophy. Political Science classes cover a broad range of topics and involve in-depth study of the behavior of individuals, groups, organizations, and government bodies, as well as examination of the political values that we share. At least as important in Political Science courses as their substantive content is an emphasis on the ability to analyze and communicate in a thoughtful fashion. These analytical and communication skills will be especially valuable in the rapidly changing job market. Today's students will probably switch jobs--and perhaps even career paths--several times following graduation. But the need to think clearly and communicate effectively will not change. Political Science stresses these abilities.
