How to succeed

Physics is a difficult subject. No one can learn physics just by listening to someone (like me) talk. You can only learn physics by DOING it. I will give you assignments that will help you learn the material. You must work hard outside of class to ensure that that happens. It is common for students to spend three hours outside of class for each hour in class.

You CANNOT memorize physics. This may get you through some other class or high school physics, but it WILL NOT get you through this class. You must UNDERSTAND the equations we will be using and the concepts behind them. Otherwise, you have no chance of using those equations correctly.

Attend class essentially all the time. If you skip class regularly, you should EXPECT to be lost when you are here.

Read the text and work on the homework at least three days per week.

Study the homework and exam solutions even if you did well.

DO NOT GET BEHIND.

Come to class prepared to pay attention and learn.
