Dr.
William Witwer is Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor at
Texas A&M-Commerce, where he conducts the Select Chorale, Chamber Singers
and teaches the Choral Music Education courses. Prior to his appointment at
Texas A&M-Commerce, Dr. Witwer held a similar position at the University of
Wisconsin-Green Bay. Under his direction the UWGB choirs presented concerts
for both the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association Convention and the
Wisconsin State Music Conference. Their performance of the St. John
Passion by J.S. Bach received critical acclaim and statewide broadcast
on Wisconsin Public Radio. Witwer holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in
the Literature and Performance of Choral Music from the University of
Colorado at Boulder, where he studied with Lynn Whitten. Dr. Witwer also
studied with Ken Fulton at Texas State – San Marcos, receiving a Master of
Music degree in choral conducting performance. As Director of Choirs at
Victoria High School, he produced sweepstakes choirs and served as Region X
Vocal Chair. As music director and conductor of The Boulder Chorale, he led
a 100-voice choir and orchestra in performances of Haydn’s Paukenmesse,
Durufle’s Requiem, Rutter’s Gloria, Pinkham’s Christmas
Cantata, Handel’s Chandos Anthem, No. 9, Britten’s St. Nicolas
and other major choral-orchestral works. Under his direction, the Chorale,
orchestra, and soloists gave the Colorado premier of Amy Beach’s Grand
Mass in E-flat and the world premier of Laurie Kahler’s Powell!
for the national symposium “American Women, American Music” sponsored by the
American Music Research Center at the University of Colorado. Dr. Witwer is
a life-long member of the American Choral Directors Association and he and
his wife, Lisa, are raising three future musicians in Greg, 14; Paul, 12;
Carmen, 7.
