AUDITION INFORMATION
 

 

 

 

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-COMMERCE  52nd JUNIOR/SENIOR HONOR BAND WEEKEND

 

 

Overview

 

The Junior/Senior Honor Band Weekend is a two day event which will be held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce on Friday and Saturday, November 2oth and 21st. The weekend will provide outstanding junior and senior musicians the opportunity to participate in a number of musically rewarding activities including:

 

1) Performance in an Honor Band of the best upperclassmen from North and East Texas with featured conductors Mr. John Whitwell, Director of Bands Emeritus, Michigan State University, Mr. Phillip Clements, Director of Instrumental Activities, and Mr. Scott Atchison, Associate Director of Bands

 

2) All-Region masterclasses with our outstanding applied faculty in small group setting

 

3) A feature concert by our nationally-recognized Wind Ensemble

 

4) Concert performances by chamber ensembles and our internationally recognized applied faculty

 

Nominations

 

The participants in this year’s Junior/Senior Honor Band Weekend will be chosen solely from director nominations.  Each director is allowed to select up to ten of their most deserving upperclassmen to participate in the event.  To nominate your students, please complete our online registration form by no later than Friday, November 6th. 

 

 

Conflicts with Playoff Games

 

Students who will be performing at playoff football games on Friday night are still strongly encouraged to participate and may audition at 7:15 AM on Saturday morning.

 

Registration

 

The registration fee, including T-shirt, is $30.00 per student. To celebrate the musical accomplishments of students who made the Region, Area, and All-State levels last year, we are offering discounts.  2008 All-Region members may register for $20.00, 2008 All-Area members will register for $15.00, 2008 All-State members may attend the Junior/Senior Honor Band Weekend for free.  All payments will be due on Friday, November 20th at Registration.

Friday, November 20th

2:30-4:30 PM            Check-In and Auditions

                    Students should prepare a one minute technical piece and a one minute lyrical piece. 
                   
Because of time constraints, scales will not be asked in auditions. 

 

4:30-6:15 PM            Dinner Break

 

6:30-9:00 PM            Rehearsal No. 1

 

Saturday, November 21st

7:15-8:30 AM           Registration and Auditions for Late Arriving Students

                                 (Due to playoff football games on Friday night)

 

8:30-9:30 AM           ATSSB Master Classes with Texas A&M University-Commerce applied faculty

 

9:30-10:30 AM         TMEA Master Classes with Texas A&M University-Commerce applied faculty

                                  

10:45-12:15 PM       Rehearsal No. 2

 

12:15 PM-1:15PM   Lunch Break and Scholarship Auditions

 

1:15-2:00 PM            Texas A&M University-Commerce Faculty and Chamber Ensemble Recital

 

2:15-4:15 PM            Rehearsal No. 3

 

4:15-5:45 PM            Dinner Break

 

5:45PM                    On-Stage Warm-up

 

6:30-7:30 PM            Concert in Ferguson Auditorium

 

Lodging in Commerce

 

For directors, students, and parents that would like to spend Friday and/or Saturday night near campus, we have arranged a special rate of $85.00 with the Holiday Inn Express in Commerce.  This rate includes a standard room with two queen-size beds. To make reservations, please call 903.886.4777 and ask for the Junior/Senior Honor Band Weekend rate.
