Dr. Mary Alice Druhan, Assistant Professor of Clarinet, joined the faculty of Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2002.  Since her appointment, she has taught courses in music literature, ear training, woodwind methods, chamber music and woodwind pedagogy.  Her clarinet choir was selected to perform as a Potpourri Ensemble for the annual convention of the Texas Music Educator’s Association (2006).  She has held previous teaching positions at James Madison University and Louisiana State University.

 Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Druhan received both a Bachelor of Music degree and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance from Louisiana State University.  While there, she studied with David Harris and Steven Cohen.  Her Master of Music degree, also in performance, is from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Ronald de Kant.  Prior to college, she studied with Diana Haskell and Timothy Wright.

 Dr Druhan currently performs with the Dallas Wind Symphony and for the Color of Sound chamber series.  She has also performed with the United States Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Natchez Opera, and Ohio Light Opera.  Recently, she has appeared as a soloist for the annual convention of the Texas Music Educator’s Association (2004), the annual convention of the Southwestern Region of the College Band Director’s National Association (2004), the 2006 Oklahoma University Clarinet Symposium, and the International Clarinet Association’s ClarFest 2006.

Dr. Druhan is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the International Clarinet Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, Sigma Alpha Iota, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Omicron Delta Kappa. She serves as an adjudicator for the Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest (2004- 06) and was the Selector for the TMEA 2006 All-State etudes for clarinet.

Jocelyn Goranson

Jocelyn Goranson, Instructor of Flute, is an active Dallas-area performer, teacher, and director of the Greater Dallas Flute Ensemble.  A native of West Virginia, she received her Bachelor of Music degree (Flute Performance) summa cum laude with a minor in English from West Virginia University, and her Master of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.  Her principal teachers have been Joyce Catalfano and Leone Buyse, with additional influence from Robert Langevin.
 
Ms. Goranson has performed solo, orchestral and chamber music in seven countries.  Additionally, she has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and the Apollo Theater.   A prize-winning competitor, Ms. Goranson was named winner of the 2006 Frank Bowen Competition and one of six semifinalists in the 2006 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition.  She was a Yamaha Young Performing Artist in 1996, National Winner of 1995 and 1998 Music Teachers National Association Woodwinds Competitions,  and a finalist in the 2004 Byron Hester Competition and the 2003 Myrna Brown Competition.  She has performed as a featured concerto soloist with the New Mexico Symphony, as well as other ensembles throughout the mid-Atlantic and Texas.    Ms. Goranson has performed with the Longview Symphony, Wheeling Symphony, Plano Symphony, Irving Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco.  Also an accomplished pianist, Ms. Goranson frequently accompanies for recitals and solo & ensemble competitions.

Dr. Todd Goranson

Dr. Todd Goranson, Assistant Professor of Saxophone and Bassoon and Jazz Ensemble Director,  is a native of the Pacific Northwest. He holds the Bachelor of Music degree (Saxophone and Bassoon Performance) and the Master of Music degree (Saxophone Performance) from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree (Bassoon Performance) from West Virginia University.

In addition to maintaining active private studios, Dr. Goranson has held previous teaching positions at Frostburg State University and the Cumberland Music Academy.  He is in his sixth season as principal bassoonist for both the Plano Symphony and the Irving Symphony orchestras.   He has also performed on the bassoon or contrabassoon with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco (Mexico), the Shreveport Symphony (LA), Dallas Wind Symphony, Longview Symphony (TX), Texarkana Symphony (TX), Marshall Symphony (TX), West Virginia Symphony, Kingsport Symphony (TN), Westmoreland Symphony (PA), Opera Roanoke (VA), and the Washington-Idaho Symphony.  His articles have been published in The Double Reed, as well as the English and Dutch editions of Scrapes.   He was also a major contributor to the WWW Bassoon Reed Project.

Dr. Goranson’s recent saxophone engagements have included performances with the Dallas Wind Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, Plano Symphony, Irving Symphony, and the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra.  An active saxophonist in jazz and popular idioms, he has performed with artists including Ray Charles,  the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Lionel Hampton, Sandi Patti, and performed regularly with the Billy Price Band.  During his time in Texas, he has been a featured jazz saxophone soloist with the Plano Symphony for concerts at the Eisemann Center and Meyerson Hall, receiving praise from the Dallas Morning News.  Dr. Goranson  has taught saxophone and bassoon master classes at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and Southern Arkansas University, has adjudicated for state solo & ensemble competitions in Texas and Idaho, and was the director/clinician of the 2007 ATSSB Region 3 All-Region Jazz Ensemble.  His principal saxophone teachers include Robert Miller, Barry Bergstrom and Curtis Johnson, and his bassoon teachers have included Ronald Klimko, Terry Ewell, and Winston Collier.

Cecile Lagarenne, Instructor of Oboe, holds a Music Education degree from Florida Atlantic University. While residing in Miami, she taught private lessons on the oboe, clarinet and saxophone. After teaching in the public schools, Ms. Lagarenne decided to concentrate solely on the oboe and began study with John Mack.  While in Miami, Ms. Lagarenne maintained a private teaching studio and performed with the Boca Pops, Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale Symphonies, Miami Beach and Gold Coast Operas.

In 1984, Ms. Lagarenne toured with the Puccini Festival Opera Orchestra.  While living and performing in Italy, she met her husband, cellist Jim Higgins. Moving to Orlando in 1984, Ms. Lagarenne performed with the Florida and Brevard Symphonies, Treasure Coast Opera and Bach Festival Orchestra.   In 1985, they moved to the Dallas area where she started a private teaching studio. In addition to tutoring over 35 weekly students, Ms. Lagarenne regularly performs on oboe and English horn with the Richardson Symphony, Wichita Falls Symphony and Metropolitan Classical Ballet Orchestra. She has performed with the Dallas Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Ft. Worth, East Texas, Longview, Plano and Shreveport Symphonies, and the Dallas Wind Symphony. Ms. Lagarenne has also performed with the Moody Blues, Willie Nelson, Reba McIntyre, Yanni, and toured with Andrea Bocelli.

As an active free lance musician she has performed in many local venues including solo performances with Musical Arts, Pro Musica and Basically Baroque at The University of Texas at Dallas. Ms. Lagarenne can be heard on the CD "Circulo" as a member of the Opus III trio, CDs by Ned Spurlock, Cantor Don Croll from Temple Shalom and Carols We Love, the new CD by Wilshire Baptist Church.
