The world premieres of saxophone works by two internationally recognized composers were presented in Commerce on April 20, 2010. The performers of Dr. Ted Hansen's "Polygons" for saxophone quintet included Joseph Reyes and Ryan Dahir on alto saxophone, Lauren Eckstein and Dr. Todd Goranson on tenor saxophone, and Gilbert Arevelo on baritone saxophone. The performers of "Centrifugal Fanfare" by Dr. Daniel Adams were Dr. Todd Goranosn, soprano saxophone; Joseph Reyes, alro; Lauren Eckstein, tenor; and Gilbert Arevelo, baritone. Both works were very well-received by the audience, and we will look forward to giving them many performances in the future! The 2010 Northeast Texas Saxophone Symposium, took place on the TAMU-C campus on February 26-27, 2010. It was a huge success, with 70 saxophonists participating in the events, as well as several hundred attending the final jazz concert with guest artists Curtis Johnson and Brian Rhodes. The weekend also included the world premiere performance of a saxophone quartet work by Matthias Arveheim.
