Dr. Todd Goranson, Assistant Professor of Bassoon and Saxophone, is a native of the Pacific Northwest. He holds the Bachelor of Music degree (Bassoon and Saxophone) and the Master of Music degree (Saxophone Performance) from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree (Bassoon Performance) from West Virginia University. A very active performer, Dr. Goranson plays between 100 and 120 professional services each year. He is in his seventh season as principal bassoonist for both the Plano Symphony and the Irving Symphony orchestras, and a member of Triforia Winds. He has also performed with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco (Mexico), the Shreveport Symphony (LA), Longview Symphony (TX), Texarkana Symphony (TX), Marshall Symphony (TX), West Virginia Symphony, Kingsport Symphony (TN), Westmoreland Symphony (PA), Opera Roanoke (VA), and the Washington-Idaho Symphony. In addition to maintaining active private studios, Todd has held previous teaching positions at Frostburg State University and the Cumberland Music Academy. His articles have been published in The Double Reed, as well as the English and Dutch editions of Scrapes. He was also a major contributor to the WWW Bassoon Reed Project. Dr. Goranson has taught bassoon master classes at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and Southern Arkansas University. Also an active saxophone performer in classical, jazz and popular idioms, Dr. Goranson has performed with artists including Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and the Billy Price Band. His recent saxophone engagements have included performances with the Dallas Wind Symphony Plano Symphony, Irving Symphony, the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, and a concerto performance with the TAMU-C Symphonic Band. His principal bassoon teachers include Ronald Klimko, Terry Ewell, and Winston Collier, and his saxophone teachers include Robert Miller, Barry Bergstrom and Curtis Johnson. |
