Veterans Vigil 09
The Vigil 2009
The Vigil is dedicated each year to POW/MIAs with recognition afforded to a particular branch or section of the United States military. This year, Reservist will be recognized. The 2009 opening ceremony begins on Monday, November 9th, at 11:00 a.m., in the Conference Room, SRSC. Dr. James Nicholson is our keynote speaker. Following the brief ceremony, a vigil flame will be lit at 12:30 p.m., which continuously burns until the flame is extinguished on Wednesday, November 11th, at a Candlelight Vigil ceremony. Our University community is welcome to attend! Dr. Randall Hooper will direct the University Chorale in a selection of patriotic songs. The Vigil site will be located between Wathena Temple and the Ag/IT building.
Tickets will be available in early October for the Red, White and Blue Pancake Supper. This event follows the Candlelight ceremony. Tickets are complimentary for those attending the Candlelight ceremony, and will be available at the Sam Rayburn Student Center Information Desk.
One important aspect of the Vigil ceremony is the posting of a guard at the site. Sentries generally serve in one-hour shifts for as many or as few shifts as they choose. If you are able to help in this area, of if you would simply like more information about the Vigil, please contact me at Connie_Mears@tamu-commerce.edu or call 903-886-5819. Your participation would be greatly appreciated!
So many fates are left unknown
And so many rumors that abound.
So many families ask the question,
"When will, the answers be found?"
So many years have come and gone;
Sometimes, hope is hard to keep.
There's some who feel there's none,
And in some, it's buried deep.
The pain is in not knowing
How to put loved ones to rest.
When there is no way to prove,
They have passed the final test.
But, no matter what the answers,
We can't let this cause alone,
Until each and every one of them
Is found and brought back home.
