Here we are in July at the new Sam Rayburn Student Center – on time for a Fall Opening of December 1. The contractors are working their checklists, inspections are happening as scheduled and everything is taking shape. In progress right now:
- Finish work with painting and sheetrock
- Ceiling lay-ins
- Terrazzo floor surfacing is being completed
- Carpet is scheduled to be installed
- Electrical wiring and cabling
- Closed circuit TV systems
- Media wiring
- Elevator installation nearly complete
- Kitchen installations – check out the photo of the new TRAYLESS dish conveyor system
- Pizza Oven and tile work finish out – LOOKS GREAT!!!
- Lighting throughout the building being installed and double checked
- Plaza and Patio exteriors are being prepped/poured
- Sidewalks around the perimeter are adding that finishing touch
- Front and side steps and landscaping is being completed
- Foundation for location of Sam Rayburn Statue is being prepped
- The trailers will be removed from the parking lot
- The Star Logo is complete – waiting for its final polish and sealing
We have many built in features that will help us be GREEN – such as the lighting systems, water free urinals (this will save 40,000 gallons a year), materials used in furniture and a state of the art lighting control system that is based on an astronomical clock set for our latitude and longitude. Safety systems are being put into place and a major convenience factor – lockers with electrical outlets so you can recharge your electronics while dining, meeting or attending a function.
