Dr. Humphreys’ Biography:

Dr. John H. Humphreys is Professor of Management in the College of Business and Technology at Texas A&M University – Commerce and a member of the Texas A&M University System graduate faculty. His interests range from organizational leadership, motivation, and strategy to managerial ethics and history, with a particular focus on the many psychological variables that impact the leader/follower relationship.

His work has appeared in numerous venues including the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Thunderbird International Business Review, the Journal of Management Inquiry, Management Decision, the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, the International Journal of Leadership Studies, the Journal of Management History, the Journal of Services Marketing, the Journal of Business and Management, the Journal of e.Commerce and Psychology, the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, the Journal of Management Research, the Journal of Business Strategy, the International Business and Economics Research Journal, the International Journal of Diversity, the Liaoning University Journal, Cross-Cultural Management, the Delhi Business Review, Industrial Management, Measuring Business Excellence, the International Journal of Business and Public Administration, and the Journal of Health Organization and Management.

His articles have been cited in various articles and books, as well as the New York Times. The winner of numerous best paper awards, he is a two-time winner (2003, 2008) of the best paper on leadership given by the Management History division of the Academy of Management and the outstanding paper award from the Southwest Business Symposium (2001, 2002). He has also been acknowledged with outstanding papers from the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines (2008), the Mountain Plains Management Conference (2005), and the International Business and Economics Research Conference (2001). Further, his scholarship has been selected as “outstanding articles” by the Journal of Management History (2007) and the Journal of eCommerce and Psychology (2001).

In addition, he serves as a frequent reviewer for various publications and is an Editorial Board Member of Thunderbird International Business Review, Chinese Management Studies, the Journal of Management History, the Leadership and Organizational Development Journal, the Journal of Management Research, the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, and the International Business and Economics Research Journal. Further, he serves as a consulting editor (former editor) for the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management, Regional Editor (North America and Europe) for Chinese Management Studies, and as the division chair of the Management History division of the Academy of Management. He is a member of the Academy of Management, the Southwest Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the Institute of Behavioral and Applied Management, and the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists.

Prior to joining academia, Dr. Humphreys held a leadership position with a multi-billion dollar financial services organization, and has considerable experience as a corporate consultant specializing in sales management and motivation, strategic management, and organizational leadership, culture, and change.
