Laurene Fausett,
Texas A & M - Commerce math department,
will speak on:

The mathematics of October Madness

Abstract:
Baseball is well known to be a game of inches, as well as a game of averages (there are statistics about everything that can possibly happen in a game). In this talk we will explore some of the mathematical questions that arise in baseball, and various ways of investigating their solutions. Mathematical modeling, numerical solutions of differential equations, and the use neuron-computing will all play a role, although no prior knowledge of any of these topics is assumed. No particular knowledge of baseball is assumed either.

All students and faculty are welcome to attend!
