Computational Sciences and Project Corvus at TAMUC
Abstract:
The new domain of computational science concerns not just computing in
isolation, but its relationship with the traditional scientific
disciplines (the physical, biological and social sciences). Current
cutting-edge research is increasingly greatly facilitated by and flows
around interdisciplinary overlaps between computing and the traditional
scientific disciplines. Computing can be described as a new fourth
fundamental domain, or at least as a new and qualitatively different
tool in the scientific toolbox to add to traditional experimental and
theoretical methods. In this talk we will explore some of these new
ideas and approaches to performing science. We will introduce the
audience to some of the fundamental concepts and tools of this type of
research. And we will conclude by describing one or two examples of
current research being performed at TAMUC that fits into this model.
