Services – Interlibrary Loan ⁄ Microforms
Interlibrary Loan acquires materials from other libraries for Texas A&M University – Commerce faculty members, graduate students, undergraduate students and staff. If you request a book, we borrow a copy. If you request a journal article, we obtain a photocopy.
We charge you nothing for Interlibrary Loan service.
For more information about our Microform Collection use this link.
NOTE: We do not borrow textbooks for your classes.
Office Hours
The Interlibrary Loan ⁄ Microforms Office is open 8-5, M-F, but you may pick up interlibrary loan material at the Customer Service Desk any hour the library is open. Most materials arrive in one to two weeks.
If we borrow a book for you we send you a notice and hold the book at the Customer Service Desk. The lending library sets the due date on books; it is usually about 3 weeks use. We can request a renewal, but it is up to the loaning library to say "yes" or "no" and to set the new due date. There is no semester check-out for interlibrary loan material.
If we obtain photocopies we mail them to you if you have a Campus Mail mailing address. Otherwise, we hold the articles for you at the Customer Service Desk and send you a notice that articles are here.
Location
The Interlibrary Loan ⁄ Microforms Office is located on the second floor.
Obtaining Materials
We use 2 types of request forms – one for books, one for journals. You may obtain a paper form in the Interlibrary Loan Office, in the Reference Department, or at the Customer Service Desk. We order most of the material electronically so we usually get yes and no answers to our requests in a day or two, but the actual delivery of the item takes longer.
We have 2 mail systems – U.S. mail and courier. The Courier runs daily, M-F, connecting almost all major libraries in Texas. Electronic delivery of photocopies via fax or another system called Ariel can often result in quick delivery for articles.
Fines
The Interlibrary Loan Department charges fines for overdue Interlibrary Loan materials. Late Interlibrary Loan (ILL) books are assessed fines using the same policy the library uses for books loaned to TAMU – Commerce students.
- Fines are $.25 per day per item to a maximum of $10.00 per item.
- Faculty, retired faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff are not fined.
- All students, GA's, and TA's can accrue fines.
- All ILL users are liable for damaged or lost books. Charges are set by the lending library.
- Patrons who have overdue items and/or unpaid fines cannot borrow or renew material until the late material is returned and/or the fine is paid.
- Unpaid fines, or lost or damaged items, may result in the suspension of ILL privileges.
- Extreme cases may result in the suspension of library check-out privileges, withholding of grades and transcripts, blocking of registration, and a report on the problem to the Dean of Students.
