Collections – Curriculum
Welcome to the Curriculum Library web site. We are located on the second floor of the west wing of Gee Library. The Curriculum Library contains two areas where classes and/or groups of students may use curriculum resources. We invite you to explore the web site, to visit us for individual assistance and/or to browse the new books and resource materials.
Juvenile and Youth (J&Y) Collection
This collection of fiction and non-fiction books appropriate for grades K-12 is housed at the west end of the Curriculum Library area. The collection is classified by the Dewey Decimal System and is divided into five sections:
- non-fiction
- fiction
The Caldecott and Newbery winners are shelved along the north wall in wooden bookcases. Other Award Books and notable books are shelved in the regular J&Y collection. New J&Y books are kept on display for several weeks on shelving immediately inside the Curriculum Library door. These books are in the online catalog LION and have "Juv." or "Yth" in the call number.
Award Books
The Curriculum Library staff has compiled a notebook of Award Book Lists. The sections include Bluebonnet, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe, Newbery, William Allen White Award, Mildred L. Batchelder Award, Margaret A. Edwards, Pura Belpré Award, Michael L. Printz Award, Robert E. Sibert Award, Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal, Charlotte Zolotow Award, Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, NCTE Orbis Pictus Award For Outstanding Nonfiction for Children, Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction, Sydney Taylor Book Award and Children's Books in Print Award Lists which is available in print only. The J&Y call numbers for the books we own are included with most of the lists.
Miscellaneous Book Lists
The Curriculum Library staff has compiled a notebook of miscellaneous book lists. The sections include Cumulative Tales, Physical Disabilities, Stories Without Words, Predictable Books, Tayshas List, Texas Lone Star Reading Lists, Circulating Big Books, and Paper-Engineered Books. The J&Y call numbers for the books we own are included with most of the lists.

Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS)
This complete collection of GEMS books is shelved adjacent to the display case.
Kraus Curriculum Development Library (KCDL)
KCDL contains in excess of seven thousand curriculum guides from schools districts throughout the United States and Canada. The Curriculum Library has printed indexes for 1978 through 1997 and the cumulative index on CD-ROM for 1983 through 1997. Online access to curriculum guides in the ERIC database is also available. Students may access these resources on the public computers in the Curriculum Library.
New Books
By clicking here you will find the titles and call numbers of the Curriculum books added to the collection in the most recent three months.
Resource materials
Useful in preparing lessons plans and supplementing K-12 learning activities, these materials include print resources and some audio and videotapes and media which accompany state-adopted textbooks. These materials are in the online catalog LION and have "Cur. Lib." in the call number. The public computers allow access to education resources on the Internet. New print resource materials are also kept on display for several weeks. Additional print resources may be found in the general collection.
State adopted textbooks
The textbooks currently in adoption are shelved along the perimeter of the Curriculum Library area in call number order (Dewey Decimal System). A copy of the most recent Instructional Materials Current Adoption Bulletin, which lists the textbooks by grade and subject, is located adjacent to the LION online catalog terminal. The call number for each textbook is indicated in the Bulletin. The most recent out-of-adoption textbooks are shelved in the Curriculum Library book stacks area. An extensive collection of older out-of-adoption textbooks is located on remote shelving and may be accessed through the online catalog and/or by using older editions of the Instructional Materials Current Adoption Bulletin. The state-adopted textbooks are provided by Region VIII Education Service Center in Mount Pleasant.
Eisenhower Access Center
The Curriculum Library has joined approximately 150 other sites nationwide as an Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education (ENC) Access Center.
Current Display
The Curriculum Library has a display case which changes quite often. Please stop by to see what they are "up to" and take some books home with you. It is located on the second floor to your right.
Circulation of Material
Circulating Material
Up to five titles of teacher resource material and out-of-adoption textbooks may be charged out for three weeks. Up to five Juvenile and Youth titles may also be charged out for three weeks. During the fall and spring semesters a book may be renewed for a second three weeks. During the summer only graduate students may renew books. Media may be charged out for two hours for classroom demonstration and for one week to interns/residents for use in their schools.
Non-Circulating Material
Current state-adopted textbooks and microfiche from the Kraus Curriculum Development Library may not be charged out.
Services
The curriculum Library staff assists users in locating and using print, non-print, and electronic resources and gives orientation/instructional tours. The Curriculum Library contains two areas where classes and/or groups of students may use curriculum resources.
Hours
The Curriculum Library is open and staffed during regular library hours.
