COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY



GENERAL PURPOSE & SCOPE
The James G. Gee Library collection supports the curriculum and research needs of undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty in the subject areas of psychology and special education

The Psychology curriculum includes assessment and measurement, abnormal psychology, educational psychology, human sexuality, perception, physiological psychology, industrial psychology, personality, social psychology, human development, motivation, learning, experimental psychology, psychology of death and dying, psychology of diverse populations, applied psychology, neuromechanisms, human factors. Undergraduate and master’s majors and minors are offered. Doctoral level study (Ph.D.) in educational psychology places emphasis on advanced statistics, assessment and measurement, cognition and instruction. State licensure programs at the master’s level include psychological associate, and state certificate programs at the master’s level include school psychologist. The applied master’s program is accredited by Masters in Psychology Accreditation Council (MPAC), and the school psychologist program is accredited by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification

The Special Education curriculum includes assessment and evaluation; learners with special needs in restrictive and least restrictive environments; special needs populations; inclusion;

collaboration, accommodation and modification; behavior modification; mental retardation; emotional disturbance; learning disabilities; exceptional children; methods of teaching the mildly handicapped. Undergraduate and master’s majors and minors are offered. The standard certificate program at the undergraduate level is generic special education. Standard certificate programs at the master’s level include emotionally disturbed and autistic, severely and profoundly handicapped, special education counselor. Professional certificate programs at the master’s level include educational diagnostician. The certification programs are accredited by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification
