General Scope and Purpose:
The James G. Gee Library collection of art materials supports
the curriculum and research needs of undergraduate students, graduate
students, and faculty in the Art Department. This also includes
non-majors taking art classes as electives. Gee Library also acts
as community-based library and resources in the art related collections
may also be used by the general public.
The scope of the art collection is in art history from antiquity
to present; art theory, composition; art and technology; collections
of seminal artists, style periods, art movements and genre; design;
communications arts; photography; and electronic media.
The Texas A&M-Commerce Art Programs
The undergraduate curriculum focuses in the visual arts
leading to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of
Fine Arts.
- Major in Studio Art (BFA)- emphasis in Ceramics, Experimental
Studies, Painting, or Sculpture.
- Major in Art (BA, BS) – nonspecialist
- Minor in Art – emphasis in Art History, Fine Arts,
Communication Arts, or Photography
- Major in Communication Arts (BFA) – Art Direction,
Design Communications, New Media, Communication Arts (with emphasis
in Illustration or Copywriting).
- Major in Photography (BA, BS).
- Second Major in Photography.
- Minor in Photography.
Teacher Education Program
- Major in Art - Secondary Teacher Certification or All-Level
Teacher Certification
The graduate program offers broad-based instruction in the foundation
areas which progresses to increasingly specialized programs that
leads to a Master of Science, Master of Arts, or Master of Fine
Arts. The Teacher Education Program in Art is accredited by the
State Board for Educator Certification.
General Subject Boundaries
The collection development emphasis is on purchasing current literature
for undergraduate curriculum, graduate curriculum, and research
needs.
