PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Serves as liaison between the Office of the Dean and the students and faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences.  Provides leadership and support to faculty, staff and students of all departments within the college.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Consults with Dean on tenure and promotion reviews and annual evaluations of department heads and faculty.

·         Oversees the Arts and Sciences Faculty Development budget.

·         Reviews employment and academic documents to ensure that both adjunct and regular faculty meets SACS academic criteria.

·         Works with faculty to facilitate curriculum changes.

·         Coordinates In-depth Program Reviews for College of Arts and Sciences.

·         Submits and reviews catalog changes.

·         Works with students, academic advising personnel and faculty advisors to answer questions and resolve problems with student degree audits.

·         Works with students on academic probation and suspension.

·         Makes student referrals to the Academic Appeals Committee.

·         Serves as mediator in conflicts between students and faculty.

·         Coordinates Grade Appeal Committees.

Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.

This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible. Consideration will be given on a case by case basis and reassignment of marginal duties will be made when appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires faculty status in a department with the fine arts, humanities, or social sciences.  The successful candidate will have excellent skills in oral, written, and interpersonal communication, as well as basic computer competency.
