PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for the creation of compelling written copy that positively shapes the image and reputation of the University and thus favorably influences perceptions and decisions about the institution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.
Serves
as primary facilitator for the development of marketing communication plans and
products.
2.
Assists
the Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services in developing, implementing
and managing the strategic marketing communication plans and efforts.
3.
Writes
or directs the development of all written marketing materials that are intended
to influence decisions made by target audiences of the University.
4.
Oversees
the development of student recruitment and fund raising literature.
5.
Analyzes
target audiences to determine the nature and format of messages that need to be
constructed and communicated.
6.
Gathers
information through fact-finding research to support development of strategic
marketing materials.
7.
Develops
marketing themes, advertising copy and design ideas for all media.
8.
Works
collaboratively with designers and printers to ensure the timely production and
distribution of quality institutional materials.
9.
Supervises
other University writers and freelancers in the development of marketing
communication materials
10. Serves as University Editor to ensure the
accuracy and message consistency of al University marketing materials and other
official publications.
11. Serves as Editor of The Pride, the
quarterly newspaper for alumni and friends of A&M-Commerce.
12. Serves as a member of the Marketing
Advisory Council (MAC).
13. Serves as resource and advisor to
administration, faculty, and staff on marketing and communication issues.
14. Serves as University liaison for
advertising agency engagements.
15. Contributes to the effective team
management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
16. This job description shall include, but
is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other
duties assigned to maintain operations and services.
MARGINAL
FUNCTIONS:
Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible. Consideration will be given on a case by case basis and reassignment of marginal duties will be made when appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE
& SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Mass Communications. Requires 7 years experience in advertising, media settings. Ability to write compelling copy necessary. Excellent computer and human relations skills needed.

Ability to move in and around personal work space and to and from other

of personal work space.
Normal Cognitive Requirements: Ability to learn, remember, and integrate rules, policies, or practices guiding the performance of an activity.
Normal Speech/Communication Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally with supervisors, co-workers and students to gather information and/or explain procedures.
Normal Written Communications Required: Ability to continually record information such as draft correspondence/reports/documents/policies/procedures, conduct interviews and record information, prepare case narratives, or prepare other lengthy documents using handwritten or mechanical means.
Travel
Demands: Moderate travel
required, ability to travel occasionally for activities such as out- of- town
meetings or training sessions.
Lifting Demands: May
lift office equipment and supplies on occasion.
