WHAT'S NEW in Commerce,
America...
June 2006 -
The web page has been updated and both the athletic and education web
sites have been joined together to make updating easier and to avoid
confusion. Hopefully, it will better serve everyone's needs.
The alumni section has been updated. We currently have 50 active,
licensed athletic trainers that graduated from our program practicing in
the state of Texas!
May 2006 - Congrats to Kristy Aguirre on graduating. She came
here from Schreiner College in Kerrville, TX (near San Antonio) under
alum, Allan Dinsmore. She accepted a job in the San Antonio ISD.
January 2006 - Congratulations to Kristy Aguirre, Brittany Chance,
Tye Burch-Bowser, Jennifer Lewis, Carrie Saulters and Dana Tegeler on
passing their state examination the first time! We had a 100%
passing percentage! Also, congrats to Jessica Peters on passing her
national examination!
August 2005 -
Congratulations to John Bear on his graduation this semester.
We have hired a new AD, Jim Johnson. He comes from Central Missouri
State and has ties to Tarleton University. The athletic department
has a new web site. We would like to welcome a new student to the
program, Brandi Coe, a transfer from Paris Junior College. She
attended North Lamar H.S.
May 2005 -
Congratulations to Jessica Peters (Mesquite, TX), Blake White (Red Oak,
OK), Amy Perez (Dallas, TX) and Monica Lozano (Richmond, TX) for
graduating this semester. Jessica will be taking a GA position at
the University of North Florida; Blake accepted the head athletic
trainer's position at Ferris High School (3A, south of Dallas); Amy
accepted a GA position here at TAMUC; and Monica is doing her student

August. Congratulations go out to Monica Lozano, John Bear, and
Krystal Cunningham for passing their state tests.
April 2005 - We just
received word that our athletic training education program has been
approved for accreditation by the JRC-AT. We still have to await
formal accreditation from CAATE but at this point, it is just a
formality. We hope to be fully accredited by April.
January 2005 -
Congratulations to two of our seniors, Jessica Peters (Mesquite, TX) and
Blake White (Red Oak, OK), for passing their state examinations in
December. They will be graduating in May.
October 2004 - Our ATE Program had its JRC-AT site visit. The
site team found 22 non-compliances to the standards. We are
working on the rejoinder document to submit back to the JRC-AT the
first of December. We will be keeping our fingers crossed
that all of our corrections are accepted. If we are rejected,
then it will be two years before we can resubmit for another site visit.
If we are accepted, then we will have our accreditation by the end of the
Spring (05).
May 2004 - We have submitted our self-study to the JRC-AT. The
self study was 158 pages long with the appendices a whopping 628 pages
long! We will have a site visit in Fall (04) to evaluate if we are
ready for accreditation.
January 2004 - If you look in the January edition of the NATA News,
there is a "Tips from the Field," article submitted by Brad Abell, TJ
Lungstrum, Jessica Peters and John Bear. We modified one of our
treatment tables into an adjustable table.

at Rockwall HS. Currently, we only have one GA, Marcy Frasier.
November 2003 -
Our department received
money to purchase 4 new computers, a Theratouch 7.7 combo unit and a
shortwave diathermy unit. We are in the process of looking for a new
head football coach. One should be named by January. We have
had a bad year for injuries - 6 ACL's so far this fall. It all
started when Jeff Shrode came down for a game and brought it with him!
July 2003 -
Congratulations to Jessica Peters and Kendal Repass (GA). They were
recipients of a SWATA scholarship. There were a lot of ETSU/A&M-C

was made to give it up.
