Staff Behavior
Relationships w/ your Supervisor:
- Whether through formal or informal means, maintain daily contact.
- Feel free to constructively present opinions concerning policies and problems related to the College and residential community.
- Do not hesitate to ask for guidance and/or assistance. Asking for help is a sign of maturity NOT weakness. We are in this thing together!
- Be sure to continually keep your supervisor updated and aware of what’s happening in your section. Surprising your HD can sometimes be dangerous.
- Complete all tasks with care, quality, and within established time frames.
- At all times, act as a PR representative for your supervisor. Explain their purpose and encourage residents to get to know them. Remember, supervisors are people too.
- If there is an issue and/or concern, involving another person, confront them directly in a constructive manner.
Relationships w/ your Fellow Staff Members:
- Maintain open lines of communication at all times.
- Show respect.
- Support each other.
- Maintain a sense of team. Everyone pulls their own weight!
- Be prepared, punctual, and have a positive mental attitude regarding staff functions.
- Be consistent! Being the “cool” RA in regards to department policies may get you melted.
- If there is an issue and/or concern, involving another person, confront them directly in a constructive manner.
Relationships w/ your Residents:
- Work to establish and maintain a positive living/learning environment from the start.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, genuine interest, and concern for each resident within your respective residence hall.
- Establish and communicate clear community expectations.
- Demonstrate and convey the concept of mutual respect.
