2009 New Student Mentors
Are you a leader?
Every semester the Office of Orientation and Retention welcomes freshman and transfer students to Texas A&M University-Commerce. We would like to invite current students in good academic standing with a positive and fun attitude and set of great leadership skills to assist us in this important task by serving as a New Student Mentor.
What is a New Student Mentor?
A New Student Mentor is someone who...
- serves as a student member of the Orientation staff and assists in facilitating our New Student Orientation and Lion Camp events.
- will commit to be present and work ALL summer orientation sessions and Lion Camp (see list of important dates in information packet).
- assists in welcoming and providing a smooth transition for all new students to our campus.
- has a sincere desire to help welcome and motivate new students and their families during their New Student Orientation session.
- acts as a resource and provides essential information that will help incoming students and their families become successful and well informed.
- is willing to be a part of a dynamic group of current students who seeks to create an atmosphere that minimizes anxiety and promotes a positive attitude.
- committed to work at least two (2) hours a week in the Office of Orientation to assist with administrative work.
- able to attend bi-weekly comprehensive training sessions that include student mentor guidance materials.

You can also pick up an information packet and application in person from the Office of Orientation (BA 259).
