The History Department offers some scholarships, prizes and awards for its students. Most range from a few hundred to a thousand dollars. Undergraduate Scholarships & Prizes
Incoming Students
The Mattie Baker Prize for Merit for an Incoming Student
| Who is eligible: | High School seniors who plan to major in history and will enter A&M-Commerce as freshmen in the fall semester |
| How to Apply: | Send a copy of your high school transcript, three letters of recommendation, a copy of ACT or SAT scores, and a letter of interest explaining your career plans and how history fits into those plans. |
| Due date: | February 1 |
Current Students
The Smyrl-Bidwell History Award
| Who is eligible: | Texas A&M-Commerce history majors who have completed at least twenty-one hours in history, at least nine of which must be advanced, and who will be officially classified as seniors by the end of the semester in which the application is being made. |
| How to Apply: | Submit: (1) a history paper of at least 2500 words (papers previously submitted at Texas A&M-Commerce are acceptable); (2) a statement of personal background and future plans; (3) a college transcript; (4) three letters of recommendation , at least two of which must be from A&M-Commerce faculty. After the applications have been recieved, candidates may be interviewed by a representative of C-COMM Corporation |

| Note: | The winner must attend the University Honor’s Day ceremony to receive the award. |

Frank B. Jackson Scholarship for Outstanding Undergraduate
| Who is eligible: | Texas A&M-Commerce history majors |
| How to Apply: | There is no application; the Scholarship Committee selects the winner |

Ternay Neu Scholarship for Outstanding Undergraduate
| Who is eligible: | Texas A&M-Commerce history majors |
| How to Apply: | There is no application; the Scholarship Committee selects the winner |
Jewell & Jesse Guy Smith Scholarship(s). If only one Smith Scholarship is given, it must go to a Graduate Student. If more than one Smith Scholarship is given, the second may go to an Undergraduate Student.
