Phi Alpha Theta

Founded on March 17th, 1921, Phi Alpha Theta is the National Honors Society for History.  It is a professional organization whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and exchange of learning and ideas among historians.  Phi Alpha Theta seeks to bring students, teachers, and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication.

The Phi Alpha Theta chapter at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Eta Beta, was founded on March, 1959, and the founding charter hangs on the wall of our departmental office.  We are an active chapter, winning a “Best Chapter” award in 1990-1.
