Biography and Research Interests
Originally from Western North Carolina, where I received my undergraduate and initial graduate education, I migrated to upstate New York to pursue a Ph.D., which I earned in 2003. A specialist in early America (American history from the colonial through the early national periods), my specific expertise is in the field of religion in America/United States to 1865. I am also more broadly interested in the intellectual history of colonial and revolutionary America, as well as the history and culture of American Indians from pre-contact times to the present. I am currently revising my doctoral dissertation on Glasite-Sandemanian theology for publication as a monograph, and plan--with Karen O'Brien of Ramapo College--to write a synthetic history of the influence of religion on the American Revolution, as well as to edit a collection of primary sources to accompany it.
