Master of Science and
Master of Education Degrees

The Department of Health and Human Performance offers a program of graduate studies leading to the Master of Science or the Master of Education degree. These degree programs are planned to provide graduate students with:

  1. Knowledge and skills necessary to organize and administer programs of health, kinesiology and sport,
  2. The ability to interpret, analyze, criticize, and produce research within health, kinesiology and sports,
  3. Knowledge related to the current problems and trends underlying programs of health, kinesiology and sports,
  4. Advanced skills and current knowledge related to health, exercise science and health and physical education pedagogy.

Admission Requirements

The applicant for enrollment to the program leading to a Master of Science in Health and Human Performance should present the following:

  1. Official transcripts documenting a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  2. A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Acceptable GRE scores on the combined verbal and quantitative parts of the Graduate Record Examination.
  4. Two letters of recommendation may be requested following receipt of transcripts and GRE scores (preferably from your former professors).
  5. A statement describing the applicant’s professional and educational goals (250-350 words or less).

Special Departmental Requirements:

All students must complete a departmental advisement guide before attaining twelve semester hours of graduate credit. To complete the advisement guide, the student should consult with the Department's Coordinator of Graduate Studies.

  1. Have an undergraduate degree or equivalent in health or kinesiology or closely related field.  Any student not having such a degree must consult the departmental graduate coordinator for special provisions;
  2. Attain a grade point average of 3.00 on graduate courses taken in the Department of Health & Human Performance;
  3. Satisfactorily complete one of the options for Master of Science degree or the Master of Education degree as outlined.
  4. Satisfactorily complete a comprehensive exam of selected graduate courses (non-thesis) or satisfactorily complete thesis research presentation (thesis). In order to take the comprehensive exam, a departmental advisement guide must be on file and all courses must be completed or be enrolled in final semester of courses.
