Catalog Description:This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective as a first responder to an accident, injuries, and sudden illness. Life saving skills and accident prevention principles will also be included.
General Information: KINE 211.001 is scheduled to meet on T-R in Rm 203 of the Fieldhouse.
***Students wishing to receive a CPR/First Aid Certification must score at least 70% on all written and practical evaluations. Also, to receive certification you must be in attendance for all the practical sessions during class.***
Course Objectives:
1.
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the skills
needed to meet most emergency situations by scoring
at least 70% on all
written and practical evaluations.
2.
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the skills
needed to administer CPR by scoring at least 70% on
all written and
practical examinations.
3.
Students will demonstrate a knowledge of the many
causes of accidents and their prevention by:
a) scoring at least
70% on a written evaluation and
b) becoming
attentive of their personal surroundings (i.e. home, work, play) so that
situations which
cause accidents are eliminated or minimized.

Physical Education Domain I
(Promoting Learners’ Physical Development), Competency 003
Lifetime individual, dual, and group activities.
The physical education student is familiar with lifetime individual, dual, and
group physical education activities, including sports, games, and dance, and can
evaluate, select, and modify activities to provide developmentally appropriate
instruction for all learners.
Objective:

Develop an ability to work effectively
as an individual or in a group effort in administering first aid and/or CPR to
an inidividual or individuals.

Fitness-related health, nutrition, and safety. The physical education
student knows health, nutrition, and safety principles and practices related to
fitness/performance and encourages learners to apply these principles and
practices.

Affective development. The physical
education student knows how to enhance learners’ self-concept and emotional
well-being through physical activity.

Develop self confidence in oneself to effectively
administer first aid/CPR skills learned in class.
Physical Education Domain II

Cognitive development. The physical education student knows how to promote
learners’ knowledge and cognitive skills in relation to lifetime fitness and
wellness.
Objective:

Develop an understanding of the costs
and benefits of various lifestyle choices.
Course Requirements and
Grading:
1.
Attendance: Attendance will be taken daily. Students
who are enrolled in KINE 211 are expected to attend class. Excessive absences
will lower your grade or could cause you to be withdrawn from this course.
2.
Grading: There are three (4) major written exams and
study guides/homework assignments in this course. Make up exams will be given
only for excused absences within one week of each scheduled exam. Students will
be given at least one week’s notice prior to the exam.
Each major written test will be worth 100 pts. Straight percentage scoring will be done on the written tests. There will be no comprehensive final exam. The practical skills tests will be graded on a subjective basis of pass/fail, with a satisfactory plus, satisfactory, or satisfactory minus. Any student receiving an unsatisfactory will be given another opportunity to perform the skill.

D = 60%
F = 59% or below
