ABOUT OUR PROGRAM...

The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at Texas A&M University-Commerce is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Therefore, students which complete all ATEP and degree requirements will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) and state licensure exams.

The current ATEP faculty is made up of the Director of Athletic Training Education and Clinical Coordinator of Athletic Training Education. In addition, the Athletic Training staff consists of the Director of Sports Medicine, two Assistant Athletic Trainers, and a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer. The ATEP’s Medical Director is Dr. Jeffrey Wallace which also serves as team physician. The ATEP also utilizes numerous medical and allied health care professionals in the formal classroom and clinical education of athletic training students.

Athletic training students gain valuable knowledge through formal classroom instruction along with hands-on experience within their supervised clinical experience rotations. They receive the training necessary to pass state and national examinations to become working professionals in the field of athletic training.

Current on-campus Clinical Education sites include:

  • Athletic Training & Rehabilitation Center (ATRC) which is located in the Field House
  • T-Lounge Athletic Training Facility (located at the Northeast end of Memorial Stadium)
  • Student Health Center (located in Henderson Hall)

Current off-campus Affiliated Clinical Education sites include:

  • Wallace Orthopaedics (Rockwall, TX)
  • Hulsey Therapy Services (Commerce, TX)
  • Live Oak Professional Center (Commerce, TX)
  • Royse City High School (Royse City, TX)

The Athletic Training Education Program at A&M-COMMERCE is fortunate to have up-to-date facilities and equipment to provide the best possible treatment for A&M-COMMERCE athletes as well as providing athletic training students with the best possible environment for learning.

Formerly known as East Texas State University, Texas A&M University-Commerce is located in Commerce, TX (approximately 65 miles northeast of Dallas). Texas A&M University-Commerce has an annual enrollment around 9,000 students and participates in the Lone Star Conference at the NCAA Division II level.
