  3. What scores / documentation do I need to enter the program?Top...
    To qualify for FULL admission an applicant beginning Spring 2008 would need a 4-year undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. If below 3.0 then you need a GMAT with a total score of 500 & 20 verbal or better or a GRE of 1000 or better.     You may apply online (see FAQ #3 above for link) or you may also request an application be mailed to you by calling the Graduate School (903/886-5167) and/or the Graduate Programs in Business & Technology (903/468-3197) or toll free (1-866-622-3899). You can also request a packet via email by completing our Information Request Form.

  7. Is there an application fee?Top...
    Yes. A $35.00 fee is required for domestic students. A $50 fee is required for international students. Call our cashier at 903.886.5050 or pay online via myLeo after you receive your CWID# from the Graduate School.
  8. Do I have to take the GMAT or the GRE?Top...
    Yes, unless your UGPA is 3.0 or higher.  The minimum scores that must be met are: GMAT 500 total with 20 verbal, GRE total of 1000.
  9. Do my GMAT/GRE or TOEFL scores expire? Top...
    Yes. GMAT & GRE expire after 5 years. TOEFL expire after 2 years.
  10. Can I take classes before I complete the GMAT or the GRE?Top...
    Yes, Domestic students can choose non-degree option. This will permit you to take up to 4 classes (12 hours) before you officially enter the program (INS does not allow International Students to be non-degree). You MUST complete the non-degree application found here: https://www.tamu-commerce.edu/gradschool/Applications/NondegreeApplication.asp and submit your application fee and your undergraduate transcripts to be eligible for non-degree status.
    NOTE: If you complete the regular application (MBA, MSMgt, etc.) and your file is not complete (as outlined above) you will be placed in provisional status. Provisional status allows ONLY ONE semester of courses (up to 12 hours). Further course-work will be blocked until your file is completed and you are officially admitted to a program. The Graduate School will inform you of your status via your postal address. Please read it carefully.

    Yes. You may complete the entire program at the Dallas, McKinney, Rockwall, and Commerce locations. We also offer many courses and programs online.

    All live-taught classes begin at 6:15 p.m.
  13. Are classes offered over the Internet? Top...
    Yes. We currently offer the MBA, MS MANAGEMENT, MSTM program completely online. Domestic students may take as many Internet-delivered classes as they wish. International Students are restricted by INS to take 1 course per semester.
  14. Do you offer a "cohort-style" program?Top...
    Yes. Our typical cohort is when an organization contacts us to develop a cohort for their individual employee needs. A cohort is when a group of students enter into a program at the same time, take classes together, remain on the same track & graduate together.
  15. I don't have a business background. Can I take business classes?Top...
    Yes. You may be required to take some background courses first. You can fax a copy of your transcript to our office for a transcript evaluation (903) 468-6011. We will notify you of any necessary prerequisite courses. Information about necessary background coursework can be obtained here. 501 courses are considered pre-reqs and can’t be used as electives.
  16. My undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) is too low (below 3.0). Can I still take classes?Top...
    Yes. You may take up to 12 hours as a Non-Degree student before you enter the program. See #*8 above as well. At the conclusion of the 12 hours you may apply for probationary admission, provided you have a graduate GPA of 3.0 or above (ONLY Domestic students are eligible for non-degree admission) and an acceptable GRE/GMAT score.

    Yes. As implied above, individuals whose admission numbers are below our minimum levels are automatically considered for probationary admission. Please forward all the materials mentioned in FAQ #3 and follow up with an email to our office mba@tamu-commerce.edu for further information.

    Yes, Up to 9 applicable graduate hours can be transferred into the 30-33 hour program and up to 12 hours can be transferred in programs with 36+ required hours. Complete this form (making sure to include course descriptions & original transcripts), email the form to MBA@tamu-commerce.edu and let us know the transcripts will follow via USPS. Or you may choose to print the form and submit via USPS w/transcripts to: TAMU-Commerce, CBT Advising Center, PO Box 3011, Commerce, TX 75429 ATTN: Director.

    Yes. Approval from the Graduate Programs in Business & Technology should be obtained before you register for the class. Email cbt@tamu-commerce.edu with your request.

    Yes. Up to two independent study classes may be taken. Such independent study options should be set up well in advance by coordinating with the particular professor with whom you would like to work (contact them directly for approval). Documentation and approval is required by the Department Head and/or Professor teaching the class.

    Yes. As of Spring 2008, the College of Business & Technology makes available a 1-hour Internship & Career Issues course. This course is in addition to any required hours for your degree and does not fulfill any degree requirements (it is considered a free elective). This course can only be taken in your final semester.     It’s possible; please email the instructor of the specific course. Or if the course indicates ‘staff’ you may contact the Departmental Secretary as well for instructions. If the professor allows a permit, please forward that email to cbt@tamu-commerce.edu so we can put the permit on the system that will allow you to register.

    Yes, The Comprehensive is required in the following programs: MBA, MSMGT, MSMKT. This is a course-embedded (MGT 527) exam in the FINAL course for these programs. To register for MGT 527 you must receive a Departmental Permit.

    You will need to submit another application for the 2nd major and pay the application fee. You can only count 3 courses from your 1st Masters on to your 2nd.  You must complete a minimum of 21 new hours for the 2nd degree (or 7 courses). See Graduate Catalog pg. 46.

    Login to MyLeo and click on the link "Apply for Graduation". Review and verify your information (MBA students w/a minor will indicate that minor on this page), hit "Submit".     No, our online courses and professors are the same as our live-taught courses/professors. There is nothing that distinguishes the venue in which you took a course on your transcript. Your diploma will simply read the name of the degree you received at TAMU-Commerce.

  38. Can my work experience and training be considered in order to waive some of my pre-requisite courses for my Master’s Degree?Top...
    Unfortunately, experiential work is not regionally accredited and thus cannot be used to waive courses.

    “Awarding of this credit will be based solely on experiential learning that is part of a formal agreement between the University and another regionally accredited educational institution or certifying agency licensed by the State of Texas to provide professional certifications, which have historically been limited to universities.  The formal agreement shall require the approval of the departmental faculty, the academic dean, the graduate dean, and the provost, and will comply with the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.”

  39. I would like to sit for the CPA, what are the State of Texas requirements?Top...
    The applicant must meet specific education requirements before an application for the CPA examination can be filed. These requirements are as follows (Contact: Virginia_Fullwood@tamu-commerce.edu) :
    • Earned a baccalaureate or graduate degree conferred by an accredited institution of higher education recognized by the Board; and
    • Successfully completed at least 150 semester hours of college credit; and
    • Successfully completed at least 30 semester hours of upper division accounting coursework, beyond the first two semesters of elementary accounting as defined by Board rule. At least 15 of these hours must result from physical attendance at classes meeting regularly on the campus of any transcript-institute institution. The requirement that coursework must be classified as upper division becomes effective January 1, 2004.
    • Successfully completed at least 21 semester hours of upper division related business coursework as defined by Board rule. The requirement that coursework must be classified as upper division becomes effective July 1, 2005.
    • Successfully completed a 3 semester hour ethics course in a traditional classroom setting that includes ethical reasoning, integrity, objectivity, independence and other core values as defined by Board rule. (Effective July 1, 2005) (Review the current list of Board approved ethics classes.)
