Direct LoansWilliam D. Ford Direct Stafford Loans offer an alternative to the traditional Stafford loan. Under the Direct student loan program, a borrower borrows money directly from the federal government. Both the Direct loan and the traditional Stafford loan are under the Federal Stafford loan program; you do not need to find/choose a lender for a Direct loan, your lender is the U.S. Dept. of Education.
