The Faculty Development Committee is pleased to bring you a series of workshops this fall dedicated to instructional and assessment strategies while building a collaborative learning community among colleagues. All workshops will be interactive and are focused on providing you with more tools and resources for your instructional toolkit.

Workshop 1

Laying the Foundations for Successful Leadership
Facilitators: Sharon Chambers, Alicia Currin, Veta Dawson, Beverly Graves, Leah Wickersham
Date: September 21, 2007

Description: This workshop is intended as a train-the-trainer model whereby department heads are able to provide their faculty with information for interpreting the results of their IDEA student evaluations from spring semester 2007, and utilize the IDEA evaluation instrument to enhance classroom experiences and instruction. The workshop will also provide information to improve the understanding of TAMU-C’s website and how to facilitate travel requests. Finally, current information will be presented by the Finance department to communicate and clarify department head requirements and interactions between academic and fiscal departments.

Integrated Course Design

Date: October 18, 2007

Description: Important topics to be covered are the significance of course design within the array of tasks involved in teaching, as well as how to identify one’s own “Dreams” for student learning. The workshop will introduce the overall model of Integrated Course Design, work on understanding and taking the initial steps toward applying the key components, and identify what happens when these ideas are used effectively. Actual case studies will be examined.
