Reaching & Teaching the Millennial Generation-Developing an Authentic Assessment Toolkit

Description: Based upon classroom based research, this presentation will provide an authentic assessment toolkit for faculty to measure formative and summative classroom-based evaluation to gauge student learning. We will explore generational differences and techniques to reach and teach the millennial generation. The session is designed around 7 P’s: Pre-Post Assessments; Papers, Projects, Problem-Based Learning, Presentations, Portfolios, and Participation. Modern technological and innovative instructional tools will be demonstrated and discussed. Prior to attending the workshop, registered faculty will receive a copy of the book, Millennials Rising: The Next Generation.

Description: This workshop is intended to assist faculty in redesigning their syllabi with IDEA in mind. Information on writing learning outcomes and alignment within course syllabi will be covered. This workshop is part one of a two part series. Registered faculty will receive a copy of Dr. Fink’s textbook, Creating Significant Learning Experiences and a copy of the classic, McKeachie’s Teaching Tips: Strategies, Research and Theory for College and University Teachers, 12th edition in preparation for Workshop 3.
