Welcome
Dear Prospective Student,
I know that you have many possibilities for English language study in the U.S.A., so I am very pleased to know that you are considering enrolling in the English Language Institute (E.L.I.) at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Why is our intensive English program a particularly good choice? Let me summarize some of the reasons for you:
1. We offer high quality intensive instruction in small classes taught by well-qualified faculty who are in turn supported by staff whose job it is to place your needs first.
2. We offer one of the most reasonably priced intensive programs in the entire country.
3. We offer in Commerce a living and learning environment that is safe, friendly, and supportive and only 45 minutes from Dallas, which is one of America’s liveliest and most interesting cities. We also offer courses at our Dallas center in Mesquite. Unlike most northern U.S. cities, Commerce and the Greater Dallas area are not subject to extremes of rain, snow, and ice. In fact, the area averages 232 days of sunshine per year!
4. We offer a guarantee that Texas A&M University-Commerce will accept completion of our highest course level with an overall GPA grade of B or better in place of their undergraduate TOEFL requirement.
5. We offer any student in our advanced levels the opportunity, subject to approval by the ELI and the course-offering department, to enroll part-time in any one university course for which he/she is otherwise eligible, up to a maximum of two courses.
6. For students who meet all but the admissions requirements for one of our Texas A & M degree programs except English language proficiency, we offer conditional university admission.
7. For students who want to experience the unique culture of the American West, we offer a variety of activities which bring them into contact with the people, the local cultural and recreational resources, and the traditions of Texas.
8. For groups with particular professional or academic needs, we offer specially customized English language programs. Examples of what we are currently offering include English for Executives, an International Youth Summer Program, an English Language Riding Camp, which combines language instruction with training in riding and horsemanship, and an academic ESL and orientation to a U.S. university for university-bound international students.
In the following pages of this brochure I shall try to give you more details in support of these reasons for choosing to study in the ELI at A&M-Commerce. I hope this information will help you decide that ours is the program that will best meet your needs. For our online application, please use the application link on this site.
I hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you personally to the ELI at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
