Dr. CHARLES BLANTON SCHOLARSHIP In memory of our friend and colleague, Dr. Charlie Blanton, a scholarship fund has been established in his honor. Foundation This will be a new scholarship for the Department of Educational Leadership. Awards are to be determined and will be governed by the level of contribution to the fund.
About Dr. Blanton... Sunday evening, January 20, 2008, Dr. Charles Blanton, Ad Interim Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership, passed away unexpectedly. Dr. Blanton was an Adjunct or Assistant Professor since 1993 with the department. He has had many friends across campus, the Metroplex and the Commerce community. He grew up in Commerce, attended Commerce High School, and got all three
degrees from East Texas State University, his doctorate degree from
Secondary and Higher Education. He played on the football team for
Commerce and the University. He spent about 25 years with Dallas ISD as
a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal, continuing his career at
Carrollton - Framers Branch and retiring from Newman-Smith High School.
He taught at the following universities: University of North Texas,
Texas Woman's, and Dallas Baptist. Last year, he was awarded the
Professor Emeritus by the Texas Council of Professors of Educational
Administration (TCPEA) for his service
to the organization.
