College Teaching Certificate
for prospective community college faculty
About the certificate:
The College Teaching Certificate program is
an 18-hour program of Higher Education course work for students who have
completed or will complete a master’s degree and a minimum of 18 graduate hours
in a teaching discipline. Students will complete course work in curriculum and
instruction in Higher Education to provide the necessary minimum foundation for
teaching at the college level. Students who
complete the program will have competencies in instruction, curriculum
development, and the legal aspects of college faculty and student life.
Requirements to complete certificate
program:
HIED 528 The Philosophy of Education
HIED 540 The American Community College
HIED 541 Community College Curriculum
or HIED 651 Curriculum Development in Higher Education
HIED 542 Analysis of Teaching in Higher Education
HIED 621 Effective Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
HIED 656 Higher Education and the Law
Other requirements for certificate:
Completion of a master’s degree and a minimum of 18
graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
Admissions Requirements:
Students must be admitted to the Graduate School in a
non-degree status for a graduate certificate. The Graduate School
admission requirement is a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution as
evidenced by an official transcript on file at A&M-Commerce. Students do not have to meet the requirements of a
completed master’s or doctoral degree to be admitted into this program.
