Educational Technology "ETEC" Program
(Learning Technology and Information Systems - LTIS)

The Educational Technology Program at Texas A&M University-Commerce is designed to prepare students for leadership roles in education, school libraries, service and industry --specifically, the design, development, implementation and evaluation of instruction for traditional and distance learning incorporating emerging trends in instructional technologies.

The Educational Technology Program strives to model and provide best practices in technology integration that supports theories of learning, application of instructional media, administration of media technology programs, research, and organizational change grounded in the foundations and principles of educational technology.

The Educational Technology Program at Texas A&M University-Commerce offers two primary paths to a Master Degree.  They are 36-hour, non-thesis M.Ed. or M.S. degree programs in the areas of Educational Technology and School Librarianship.

The degree focusing on Educational Technology is for those who desire to develop skills as educational/instructional technologists, classroom instructors, or technology specialists at all levels.  For the degree, students take 7 core courses and 5 guided electives allowing for specialized degree options.  Courses within the major area (21 hours) of the degree provide students with the foundational knowledge of the field of educational technology, research methodology, learning theory, organizational change, applying instructional media and administration of media technology programs.  Elective courses are determined in consultation with an advisor at the beginning of the student’s studies. Specialization areas may include Technology Leadership, Instructional Technology, or Technology Applications.

The Library Science Degree is designed for those desiring to become school librarians.  For the Library Science Degree, students take 36 hours of specialized coursework to be determined in consultation with an advisor at the beginning of their studies.  The degree includes all courses required for school librarian certification.  Teachers desiring School Librarian Certification, but who already have a Masters degree, must only complete the 21 hours of certification courses and pass the TExES.  However, if a previous masters degree is not held, students may apply all 21 hours required in the School Librarian Certification program toward the Library Science degree.

In addition to School Librarian Certification, the Educational Technology Program also includes courses for Technology Applications Certification.  The ETEC program includes a designated set of preparation courses for both the 8-12 and all-level Technology Applications Certification.

ETEC offers the following degree options...

Additionally, preparatory coursework for the following certification areas are also offered through the ETEC Program...
