Trade and Industrial Education Certification Trade and Industrial Education (T&I) certification is designed to prepare those with a unique combination of education, work experience, and industry based specializations for employment as middle/junior and high school teachers. STEPS FOR CERTIFICATION

A grade of “B” or better in a college level mathematics course will satisfy the THEA requirement in mathematics. A grade of “B” or better in a college level English course will satisfy the THEA requirements in writing.
Meet with an advisor to develop a certification plan. The certification plan will require coursework in the following areas.
Curriculum Development (3 Hours) Classroom Management (3 Hours) Technology (3 Hours) Program Oversight and Administration (3 Hours) Supervised Mentorship (6 Hours)
Finalization of the certification plan requires a $50.00 fee to the Alternative Certification Office. Payments should be addressed to Texas A&M University–Commerce.

All candidates for certification are required to attend a TEA sponsored workshop for T&I educators.
All candidates for certification must pass the TExES 170 Exam.
All candidates for certification must serve for one year in a supervised instructional setting appropriate for certification.
Once all requirements of the certification plan are completed, candidates must apply for certification through the Office of Alternative Certification. Contact information is as follows:
