Marketing Education Certification

Marketing Education certification through the Department of Educational Leadership is designed to prepare those with a unique combination of education and work experience for employment as middle/junior and high school teachers. 

STEPS FOR CERTIFICATION

 

Step One – Verify Professional Qualifications

Every candidate for Marketing certification must complete a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) form to verify eligibility for the program.  The SOQ must be notarized.  The following work experience is required based upon the educational attainment of the applicant.

Those holding a bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution with the equivalent of a minor in marketing must have two years of full-time wage earning experience directly related to marketing profession within the last eight years. 

Step Two – Satisfy competency requirements through the THEA exam.

Acceptable THEA scores are:

Mathematics 230
Writing 220
Reading 250

 A grade of “B” or better in a college level mathematics course will satisfy the THEA requirement in mathematics.  A grade of “B” or better in a college level English course will satisfy the THEA requirements in writing.

Step Three – Develop a Certification Plan

Meet with an advisor to develop a certification plan.  The certification plan will require coursework in the following areas.

Curriculum Development (3 Hours)
Classroom Management  (3 Hours)
Technology (3 Hours)
Program Oversight and Administration (3 Hours)
Supervised Mentorship (6 Hours)

Finalization of the certification plan requires a $50.00 fee to the Alternative Certification Office.  Payments should be addressed to Texas A&M University–Commerce.

Step Four – Satisfy Required Professional Development and Testing Requirements

All candidates for certification are required to attend a TEA sponsored workshop for Business and Marketing educators.

All candidates for certification must pass the TExES 175 Exam and the appropriate Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) Exam.

All candidates for certification must serve for two years in a supervised instructional setting appropriate for certification.

Step Five – Apply for Certification

Once all requirements of the certification plan are completed, candidates must apply for certification through the Office of Alternative Certification.  Contact information is as follows:
